AVCorp supplies audio for Allphones Arena events
AUSTRALIA: AVCorp has recently supplied audio systems for several large events held at Sydney’s Allphones Arena. Each of the varied productions required a completely different PA set up, for which the A/V staging company utilised its inventory of JBL equipment.
For the recent National Disability Insurance Scheme rally (featuring the prime minister as a guest speaker) the PA system comprised two hangs of five JBL VRX 932LAP speakers and a number of VRX subwoofers. Meanwhile, PRX speakers were used for in-fill and out-fill at the front and for foldback duties on stage.
‘The system was actually too loud,’ admitted Michael Papas, managing director of AVCorp. ‘You could hear low frequency reflections from the roof which muddied up our sound. We dropped the level a little and it gave us very good speech intelligibility with good coverage. I knew we would get the coverage but I was surprised at just how good it was,’ he enthused.
Each of the recent productions used AVCorp’s Soundcraft Si Compact 32 digital live sound console. ‘We had video playback via DVD where the audio was out of sync in the first scene but by having the delay facility in the Soundcraft console, we were able to set the delay to sync up the audio,’ Mr Papas explained.
The next gig to make use of AVCorp’s JBL and Soundcraft inventory was a Lingerie Football event where the PA comprised four hangs of five VRX 932LAP speakers hung from the centre of the arena.
‘It was remarkable,’ said Mr Papas. ‘As we worked to a budget for this event, we didn’t put any subs in. However they had a DJ who really cranked up the sound and their FOH guy asked us where we had placed the subs! He couldn’t believe there weren’t any. Personally, I thought it was a little too loud but I was pleased with the result and the response from a very happy client.’
A week later the Allphones Arena hosted the State of Origin Party, where four hangs of five VRX 932LAP speakers were used.
JBL and Soundcraft are distributed by Jands in Australia.
