Asian myMix sales to be led by Tommy Kim
ASIA: Tommy Kim has been named director of business development for Asia by Movek Corp LLC, the company behind the myMix personal monitoring system. The appointment – announced to Pro Audio Asia at the recent Pro Light & Sound exhibition in Germany – will see Mr Kim spearhead the development of the myMix brand across a region that Movek founder Mathias von Heydekampf described as ‘a great market for us with so much potential’.
Mr Kim is currently best known within South Korea where he distinguished himself during a long career with a leading distributor, becoming one of the most visible and influential figures within the market. More recently he enjoyed a successful stint within the lighting sector.
His new role marks a welcome return to professional audio, both supporting and expanding the myMix distribution chain throughout the region. He will continue to be based in Seoul, reporting directly to Mr von Heydekampf.
‘Tommy is responsible for the whole of Asia for business development and we’re very proud to have him on board,’ explained Mr von Heydekampf. ‘He’s a very experienced manager and a good friend. We have had some good history with him and we’re looking forward to exploring Asia with him.’
Regarding the company’s plans for Asia, the company founder added: ‘We think the Korean market really represents a great opportunity for us – it has a big house of worship community which is ideal for myMix. But also south east Asia is still a big opportunity, so I think it’s a mixture of initially concentrating on Korea then focusing on more markets, including Japan and of course China. But we want to go step by step rather than trying to be everywhere at the same time.’
Mr Kim was equally enthusiastic regarding his new role: ‘I’m really excited but I’m also trying to remain calm,’ he explained. ‘I am determined to work hard and help myMix make a big impact in a market which is expanding. Also, I am extremely happy to work for a friend.’
According to Mr von Heydekampf, the appointment was discussed during a recent visit to Seoul, before being finalised on April 9th, immediately before Pro Light & Sound. ‘We discussed the deal in the Gangnam district, so we did it Gangnam style!’ he smiled, adding: ‘Tommy has the insight that I don’t have. We are really excited about it and we think that we’ll have a great future together in Asia.’
