Audio-Technica expands M-Series headphones

As a result of customer feedback, Audio-Technica has expanded its M-series range of professional monitor headphones with the release of the new ATH-M20x, ATH-M30x, ATH-M40x and ATH-M50x.

According to the manufacturer the models have taken cues from the sound and design of the company’s ATH-M50. The new ATH-M20x, ATH-M30x and ATH-M40x are stated to deliver accurate audio and outstanding comfort. All three headphones feature 40mm drivers with rare earth magnets and copper-clad aluminium voice coils, as well as a circumaural design. The ATH-M50x – featuring 45mm drivers – has the exact same sonic signature as the original ATH-M50, but adds refined earpads and three detachable cables.

The entry-level addition to the M-series is the ATH-M20x. It features a modern design and is said to deliver a comfortable listening experience, with enhanced audio and effective isolation. Ideal uses include tracking and mixing.

Next in the range is the ATH-M30x. Audio-Technica states they are tuned for highly detailed audio, with strong mid-range definition, and can be used in any situation. Also designed primarily for studio tracking and mixing, the manufacturer states that the increased portability makes them ‘a great choice for field recording’. Both the ATH-M20x and ATH-M30x feature a single-side cable exit with a permanently attached 3m cable.

The ATH-M40x headphones have been tuned flat for increased audio accuracy when monitoring. They include sound isolation, swiveling earcups and a collapsible design. The headphones come with two detachable cables, a 1.2m-3m coiled cable and 3m straight cable, and are best suited to tracking and mixing as well DJ monitoring.

Based squarely on the original ATH-M50, the ATH-M50x has refined its earpads, and now includes three detachable cables – a 1.2m-3m coiled cable, 3m straight cable and 1.2m straight cable. The ATH-M50x is best suited to recording, broadcast, DJ, live sound and personal listening.
