Belden installed throughout Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium

UAE: More than 70km of fibre and copper cables from Belden were installed into the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain prior to its recent opening. The venue required a state-of-the-art video and audio transmission infrastructure compliant with SMPTE standards, enlisting systems integrator, Al-Futtaim Technologies, to carry out the installation.

Pro Audio Middle East visited the 25,000-seat stadium for the May-June 2014 edition, outlining the emphasis that was placed on its visual aesthetics. A large part of this, however, extends to providing an immersive multimedia display to accentuate the on-pitch action. Hazza Bin Zayed stadium accomplished this through the installation of a 40 sq-m video screen, a sophistication audio system, outside broadcast units and more than 30 pitch-side camera locations, all of which are supported by the Belden cable infrastructure.

Al-Futtaim reportedly selected the manufacturer’s Pro Broadcast solutions because the company offers a ‘complete product portfolio, backed by a proven track record of quality, consistency and reliability’. The equipment was then quickly supplied by Belden partner, Al Mazrouri, allowing the project to be fast-tracked and completed in 17 months.

To provide the necessary camera infrastructure, the integrators used 23km of Triax 11 copper and 9km of SMPTE 311M fibre composite camera cables, which are designed specifically for HD camera feeds and comply with SMPTE standards. The Triax 11 cables enable multiplexing audio and video signals and DC power to the camera, while the fibre cables perform the same functions over greater distances.

The live video broadcasting and audio infrastructure was made up of a combination of 5km of RG6 coaxial cable and 23km of two-pair 22 AWG stranded conductors. A total of 10km of central loose tube single mode fibre cable was also used for data and control systems, including data collection to outside broadcast vans.

‘For critical projects like Hazza Bin Zayed, we cannot take any chances,’ concluded Abdul Rauf of Al-Futtaim Technologies. ‘That is why we selected Belden professional broadcasting and audio infrastructure components. We knew they would have the right products to ensure the performance required for the wide variety of infrastructure needs and that they would provide all the support we need at all stages of this critical project.’
