Coda Audio is now shipping the AiRAY loudspeaker system, incorporating the manufacturer’s Dual Diaphragm Planar (DDP) Driver, AiCOUPLER and sensor controlled subwoofer technologies together with linear phase DSP processing.

Housed in a compact 674 x 359 x 570 mm cabinet, the system combines dual 12-inch neodymium cone drivers with 4-inch voice coils. The long excursion drivers contain high flux linear motors with four demodulation rings for constant inductance and reduced power compression, whilst the carbon fibre diaphragm minimises the moving mass and reportedly improves both cone stiffness and internal damping, thereby achieving high sensitivity and clarity. At the heart of AiRAY are two 6-inch dual diaphragm planar-wave-drivers. Each coaxial system employs two concentric annular ring diaphragms, each covering a smaller frequency range for increased power handling and low distortion.

With a rated power handling of 2,000W RMS (AES), the system only requires two of the four channel Linus amplifiers for operation within a 50Hz to 22kHz frequency range. The horizontal coverage can be varied according to the application at 110-degrees, 80-degrees or 95-degrees asymmetrical (40-degrees + 55-degrees), whilst the vertical curving can be configured in 0.25-degrees and 1-degree to 8-degrees in 1-degree steps. The integrated three-point rigging system for flown or ground-stacked arrays is compatible with Coda’s ViRAY, SC2-F and SCV-F enclosures. Each 38.5 kg multiplex enclosure is finished with a Polyurea coating for added durability and water protection

Meanwhile, AiCOUPLER sums the energy from the transducers into a large mutual horn performing as a single source without phase destructions, to produce a coherent and uniform wavefront. Occupying the entire front of the cabinet increases the efficiency of the horn and provides uniform power response and directivity control. The large waveguide for the two DDP drivers enables acoustical loading down to 350Hz with horizontal pattern control through the mid/high range. The two 12-inch cone drivers are symmetrically loaded to the AiCOUPLER using multiple, spaced slots to increase the distance between their acoustical centres, providing consistent coverage down to 250Hz and additional sensitivity of 6dB over 200Hz. Whilst the two DDP drivers cover the 350Hz to 22kHz range, the two port-loaded cone drivers extend the low frequencies down to 50Hz from 700Hz. All drivers work together within the 350Hz to 700Hz range, increasing the maximum SPL output capability of the system as a whole.

AiRAY includes Linus control racks as an integrated solution for DSP control, amplification, I/O audio routing, network remote control and diagnostics. The touring package further comprises transport dollies, rigging accessories and protection covers. The SC2-F dual 15-inch sensor controlled bass extension cabinets enhance the low frequency headroom, whilst the SC8 or SCP sensor controlled subwoofers can provide an extension down to 25Hz.
