Extron ceiling tile speaker available immediately

Published:

Extron Electronics has announced the introduction and immediate availability of the SoundField SF 228T, a two-way ceiling tile speaker for 70V/100V systems.

Reportedly ensuring that ‘end users get better-sounding audio and integrators get quicker installations’, the new tile speaker features a ‘low profile’, 24-inch by 24-inch by 5.3-inch deep enclosure that is UL 2043 plenum rated, weighs less than 9kg, and drops directly into standard suspended ceilings.

The speaker is sold in pairs and is designed for ‘fast and easy installation’. The two-way ported design includes a 6.5-inch woofer and a silk dome tweeter that provides a frequency response of 50Hz to 20kHz for high fidelity music and speech reproduction. The SF 228T boasts 60W continuous pink noise and 120W continuous program output.

A low frequency extension is achieved through a long-throw woofer mated to a tuned-port enclosure, plus a large transformer for distortion-free low-frequency output. An MDF front baffle for the woofer provides the rigidity and stiffness to minimize enclosure vibrations that would otherwise compromise sound quality. The SF 228T drops into the same space as a standard tile, and includes a T-bar, facilitating easy installation.
