Gold’s Gym gives CSA a workout
INDONESIA: Understanding a client’s needs can often be the best referral for future contracts as CSA Indonesia can testify. Having successfully designed, supplied and installed a sound reinforcement system on a strict budget into Gold’s Gym in the Indonesian city of Citos, the Jakarta-based Harman Pro distributor has now been awarded with a lucrative contract to outfit a further 10 gyms across Java.
‘The owner was unhappy with the quality of the previous system following customer complaints ranging from poor sound distribution to uneven dispersion,’ revealed project manager Amir Santoso. ‘We have gained a lot of experience having installed systems into similar environments such as Fitness First and with our product range knew what the owner required.’
A dbx ZonePRO 1260M now allows the gym instructors to manage the source or volume control in the six contrasting zones via the ZC-6 wall mounted zone controllers, which are networked to the ZonePRO 1260M via Cat-5 cabling.
‘It’s important to match the mood of the fitness programme being instructed in each zone, so whilst the aerobics and cycle rooms require higher SPL’s to motivate those working out there, the yoga room and reception areas require gentle ambience,’ furthered Mr Santoso. ‘With the ZonePRO 1260M, the instructors can select their source but more than often simply plug in an iPod, play whatever they want and adjust the volume via the ZC-6 controllers.’
Whilst a passive wall-mounted system consisting of JBL PRX412M speakers and MRX518 subwoofers serve the aerobics room, an active loudspeaker solution comprising PRX712 cabinets and PRX718 subwoofers provide more pedal power to the cyclists. Both rooms are further complemented by JBL Control 25AV speakers and SB210 subwoofers to ensure even coverage. The reception area is equipped with an AKG DST99 microphone for simple paging announcements and the ambience in this area and the yoga room has been matched with JBL Control C50 speakers.
‘The ceilings are made of concrete and we were restricted in many ways as to where we could suspend speakers,’ explained Mr Santoso. ‘We certainly could not provide a ceiling mounted solution and the Cat-5 cabling routing the ZonePro 1260M to the various zone controllers could not be channelled into conduits through it. However, the ceiling and wall mounted speakers which are all routed to the Crown NXLS, XTi and CDi amplifiers in a central server room provide great coverage. In addition, we have managed to provide low profile speakers which don’t disrupt the aesthetic qualities whilst providing low frequencies down to 40Hz.’
