Grund Audio targets install market with three-way VIP series
The VIP Series of speakers from Grund Audio Design comprises four passive models that are targeted towards the A/V installed sound market and for A/V presentation playback use. Three of the cabinets employ a three-way loudspeaker design, leading the manufacturer to state that they feature ‘the highest SPL sensitivity in their class’.
All but the smallest two-way VIP-06 take on this three-way design, allowing the VIP-08, VIP-10 and VIP-12 models to reproduce a more natural mid-range. The VIP-06 utilises a 1-inch HF dome tweeter coupled with 6.5-inch cone LF transducer, and provides a 68Hz–20kHz frequency range.
Meanwhile, the VIP-08, VIP-10 and VIP-12 loudspeakers produce ‘dramatically improved speech intelligibility and vocal performance reproduction’. The mid-range transducer in each of these models features a 5-inch cone with a 1-inch coil in a quasi-horn loaded design. Similarly, these three models feature 1-inch HF dome tweeters. For low frequency reproduction, the VIP-08 uses an 8-inch cone transducer, the VIP-10 employs a 10-inch version, and the VIP-12’s is 12-inches. The frequency range for the VIP-08, VIP-10, and VIP-12 is, respectively, 45Hz to 18kHz, 40Hz to 18kHz, and 38Hz to 18kHz.
The manufacturer anticipates that A/V integrators will benefit from the series’ four M6 integrated flypoints, as they can be applied to restaurants, presentation facilities, classrooms and secondary areas in houses of worship. An optionally available wall mount bracket is also available.
The VIP-06, VIP-08, and VIP-10 loudspeakers are available in both black and white, while the VIP-12 is available in black, and the name badges on the front of the enclosures rotate for vertical or horizontal positioning.
Another new range targeted towards the fixed install market is the GT ‘01’ series loudspeakers. Optimised for use in houses of worship and a range of other installations including corporate presentations, meeting and other special events, the seven newest members of the product line – the GT-601, GT-801, GT-1601, GT-1001, GT-1201, GT-1202 and GT-5301 – all utilise two-way designs with a horn (with the exception of the GT-5301, a three-way system), resulting in a consistent sound.
Flat frequency response, low distortion, and wide dynamic range are key to the series’ appeal, and all models utilise a 90-degree circular horn pattern where a wide energy spectrum is required. Of particular note, the horn is strictly a wave device – a feature that reportedly delivers the ‘purest and most consistent sound quality possible’ with quick and accurate focusing of the high frequencies.
The new models offer a comprehensive range of sizes in order to provide broad horizontal dispersion and solid vertical throw. Each incorporate powder-coated, perforated steel grilles to protect the transducers and, for connectors, provide either NL4 speakOn or five-way binders. All are available in available in black or white finishes or with a natural wood option.
