Guangzhou Broadcasting Network opts for TSL audio monitoring

Published: ASIA

CHINA: Audio monitoring solutions from TSL Products are to be installed within the new Broadcast Centre of Guangzhou Broadcasting Network (GZBN). The installation, comprising 23 PAM2-MK2 multichannel audio monitors, 28 SAM1-3GM studio audio monitoring units and 23 MPA1-3G MP series monitoring units, will be carried out by the manufacturer’s Chinese partner Suntec Broadcast Technology alongside systems integrator Century Sage System Ltd.

GZBN operates a public channel and six cable channels, broadcasting content including news, sports, drama, economics, shopping, children’s entertainment and English language programmes to over 70 million local viewers in the Guangdong region and across the whole of China via satellite. An existing TSL user, the broadcaster began planning the workflow for its new Broadcast Centre approximately two years ago, citing requirements such as multi-functional equipment, upgradability and HD/SD/Stereo/Dolby 5.1 capabilities.

‘We had used TSL Products equipment in our previous building, and it was the clear choice again for our new Broadcast Centre,’ explained Guangping He, senior engineer, vice director of Play Out Centre, GZBN. ‘TSL always provide multi-functional solutions, which are essential in a complex environment. For instance the SAM1 can monitor and mix SDI audio, analogue and AES audio at same time. This mixing and routing capability means we do not need a separate router and panel to manage the different sources; the operator can easily monitor different sources using the solo mode in the SAM1. In addition the PAM2-MK2 can monitor level meters and loudness and video on LCD screens, while also controlling 5.1 surround. This flexibility is perfect for our requirements.’

The PAM2-MK2 units are already installed in the Broadcast Centre’s master control room and playout centre, while the SAM1-3GM and MPA1-3G units will be installed in the studio, edit suite and voiceover room during November. The facility is scheduled to go live at the end of the year.
