J Davis chooses L-Acoustics for India's first Flugtag
INDIA: J Davis Prosound & Lighting was recently chosen to provide complete sound reinforcement for the first Indian Red Bull Flugtag competition. Witnessed by around 35,000 spectators, the event saw 31 teams launch their hand-made flying machines off a 9m pier into the air before rapidly descending into the waters of Sankey Tank. The J Davis team deployed a sizeable L-Acoustics V-Dosc system that distributed audio around the entire perimeter of the lake.
Started in 1991, The Red Bull Flugtag is an annual event that has now visited over 140 cities around the world. The rules state that 'aircraft' must be powered by muscle, gravity and imagination, with competitors judged on distance, creativity and showmanship. The combination leads to teams spending months designing, building and testing their machines for all but a few seconds of glory on the day. This year's winner however, Visar-Jet from Mumbai, managed an impressive distance of almost 20m.
To provide sound reinforcement for the spectators, J Davis deployed a complete L-Acoustics solution comprising 24 V-Dosc cabinets and 20 L-Acoustics subs, 12 Dv-Dosc, eight Arcs and two Dv subs. Additionally, six Martin Audio LE 1500s were deployed as monitors alongside a further 24 QSC and Electro-Voce powered monitors on stands.
'J Davis Prosound & Lighting was chosen to provide complete sound reinforcement for the event. The task was to cover a vast audience area, which required a lot of distributed sound and cabling work,' commented Santana Davis. 'It was quite a challenge to design the system where the complete signals were to be drawn across the lake and connected to the other end of the setup.'
The team settled on a design built around an eight stack setup. Each stack comprised three V-Dosc cabinets and two subs and was positioned every 30-35m along the full 260m length. A further six Dv-Dosc and two SB218 subs were deployed near the main ramp area along with three Dv- Dosc and a single DV Sub for the aisle. Three Dv-Dosc and one Dv sub were also deployed for the VIP area. The FOH console was a Yamaha PM5D RH, which was fed with signals from Shure UHF R Series microphones.
'We are proud to have been chosen for such an amazing event and we thank Wizcraft Events for having entrusted us with the job,' concluded Mr Davis.
