J5 Productions takes Singapore’s first Aviom A360 for rental
SINGAPORE: J5 Productions Pte Ltd has become the first rental company in Singapore to acquire a number of Aviom A360 personal mixers. The purchase – made through Singaporean distributor Coda Group Pte Ltd – reportedly follows a period of evaluation during which company founder and director Justin Tan assessed the relative merits of a number of competing systems. ‘After trying a few alternative systems I think that the Aviom is really something special and fits our needs,’ he explained.
Founded in 2010 and boasting a broad complement of high-end audio and lighting brands, J5 Productions is among Singapore’s youngest up and coming rental houses. As well as enjoying a thriving reputation within the city’s house of worship community, the company currently focuses on medium sized live concerts, the corporate events markets and more. The decision to invest in Aviom’s latest personal mixing system marks the extension of a relationship that previously saw Mr Tan stock an inventory of A16II personal mixers. The company founder also has personal experience of using the US-based brand.
‘I’ve been a monitor engineer for live concerts and a local mega church since 1999 and have been using the Aviom A16II mixers for a good seven or more years,’ he explained. ‘I really like them because, number one, they are really hardy. Also navigating through some other systems, for a layman musician, can be a bit of chore, especially when we have limited soundcheck time.’ He added: ‘We also had to have something rider friendly – a brand that has been in the market for a long time. When we see overseas riders coming in, it’s always Aviom. That was a big part of our decision.’
Coda Group’s Isaac Eng added that the purchase was initially spurred by the inclusion of new features in the A360 model over the previous A16II. ‘Justin saw Aviom in those riders and knew that a lot of people would accept them, but the sound engineer in him wanted to assess the A360s for himself,’ Mr Eng explained. ‘In the A360 we have new features such as the Dante integration, individual channel EQ and reverb, the ability to process more channels per mixer, advanced pan control and better audio processing, but that had to be tested so we worked with J5 to let them run a few concerts with the systems. It worked well. Now J5 has the ability to provide a value added service to their clients with this product for their personal mixing needs. All of these features make the system future-proof for a company like J5, where the applications can go from a simple 16-channel set-up for a band, to an event with multiple bands and an orchestra.’
Following the purchase, Mr Tan confirmed that J5 is already in talks to expand his Aviom inventory by adding more A360 mixers and D800-Dante distribution units.
