L-Acoustics draws on K2 for X Series
L-Acoustics has called on the R&D it put into K2 for the development of its three-member X Series of coaxial speakers. Aimed the installation and rental markets, the X Series includes high-excursion neodymium drivers, ellipsoid directivity, laminar vented ports and up to 30 per cent weight reduction. When used as a stage monitor, L-Acoustics describes the X Series as offering ‘low latency monitor presets and a 7 per cent lower profile’. For the installation market, the X Series comes with a range of rigging accessories and a RAL custom colour programme.
The three members of the family are the X8, X12 and X15. The manufacturer describes X8 as the ‘live monitor’ of the series and suggests its use for the FOH position or in control rooms. The X12 meanwhile is stated to cover multiple rental and install applications with its 90-degrees x 60-degrees ellipsoid directivity. L-Acoustics calls the X15 the family’s ‘powerhouse’. It has a directivity of 40-degrees x 60-degrees and integrated risers allow it to go from 35-degrees to 55-degrees.
One of the defining factors for the construction of the X Series has been the carpentry techniques used. According to L-Acoustics, these have been used to optimise internal volumes, maximise bass and eliminate vibrations. Full specifications for the X Series cabinets will be announced closer to the Q4 2015 shipping date.
In other news, the French manufacturer has released Soundvision 3.0. The 3D sound system design program has been fully re-designed on a new architectural platform and is reported to be up to 40 times faster when calculating the most complex files. While Soundvision’s code has been fully renewed, the user interface has been kept identical to previous versions. The updated version is also backwards-compatible. The new release is reportedly fully compatible with the most recent graphic cards and with PC operating systems from Windows Vista and above. It is available as a free download.
