Matrix Sound changes business strategy

SOUTH AFRICA: Matrix Corporate & Theatre Sound has sold its rental arm to focus purely on sales. FT Fogtech has purchased Matrix Sound’s rental division as a going concern, effective 1st May 2015.

Matrix Sound has expanded its sales offering in the past year acquiring a variety of new brands including ARX, Dynacord and Galaxy Audio. Together with Link SRL and Alcons Audio, the company believes it is well positioned to make this transition into a dedicated sales entity.

‘We have never been a company to collect agencies for the sake of it and while we have no intention of changing this approach, our lack of range was limiting our sales growth,’ explained Trevor Peters, founder of Matrix Sound. ‘The brands that we now represent will offer clients choice on a number of criteria including application, design and price. With our US office operational and shipping to South Africa, and with a large number of new and innovative products being brought to market across the brands, I felt that the sales division required more dedicated attention to allow it to realise its potential.’

The sale of the rental division will see Fogtech become a turnkey technical supplier. ‘We have spent many months working on this deal in order to ensure that there would be little or no negative impact on the parties involved,’ said Fogtech’s Garth O’Kelly. ‘We are proud to say that while some adjustment will be required, no jobs have been lost in this transaction. As Fogtech has been supplying video on Matrix Sound's shows for the past five years, and we have played an integral part on the vast majority of these events, our clients are also very comfortable with this development.’

‘It certainly is the end of an era for us as a company, and for me personally, an emotional transition to be making,’ furthered Mr Peters. ‘Supplying sound to the events industry is how we started and delivering at a consistently high level is what has kept us in business as a dedicated sound company for the past 16 years.’

Following the deal, Fogtech will take over the current Matrix Sound premises at 2 Fabriek Street in Strijdom Park as the building is well suited to accommodate its increased inventory, vehicles and staff compliment. Matrix Sound’s new premises are at Unit 3, Acacia Industrial Park in Arbeid Avenue, Strijdom Park. Telephone, email and all other contact details for the company remain unchanged.

‘This is a new era for Matrix Sound, and indeed for me personally,’ concluded Mr Peters. ‘Together with our new sales team, I look forward to embracing the challenges that will present themselves with a freshly honed focus on the job at hand.’
