New Allen & Heath firmware promises enhanced effects and configuration

Published:

Allen & Heath has released new firmware updates for the Xone:DB4 and Xone:DB2 digital FX mixers, and for the Xone:K2 Midi controller. The new software provides enhanced effects sections and configuration for the DB4 and DB2 mixers, and greater integration between the DB4 and the K2 controller.

Beginning with the Xone:DB4 V2.0 firmware, this offers more creative flexibility by allowing a user to determine where the effects, EQ sections and the effects ‘on’ switch are placed in the signal path – including Post Fade effects. The DB4 update also includes a new spatial crossover tool to independently adjust stereo width above and below a variable crossover point. A master output balance control for panning left and right is included, and the microphone/auxiliary input can now be routed to any or all of the four main music channels for multiple effects processing and looping.

Meanwhile, the Xone:DB2 V2.0 update includes the DB4 features: spatial crossover, Infrabass effect, master midi clock generator and the master output pan control. Additionally, the firmware offers users the ability to cascade the two effects units for enhanced creativity.

The Xone:K2 and DB4 V2.0 firmware updates also offer a new integration feature, which means that when connected via X-Link, all four of the DB4 loopers can be remotely controlled on the K2, enabling the user to mix between a loop and the un-looped track using the K2 faders, instantly changing the loop length using the momentary buttons, or changing the main loop length.

In another announcement, the UK-based manufacturer has released a new AES out option module for the fixed format MixRacks from its iLive digital mixing series.

Customers are now able to order an iDR-16, iDR-32, iDR-48 and iDR-64 fixed format MixRack or the xDR-16 expander unit, fitted with an AES digital output option, providing two AES3 digital two-channel outputs in place of four of the analogue line outputs. Supported by the newly released firmware V1.9, the option is also available as a retro-fit kit for existing customers.

Completing the new product launches is the release of V1.9 iLive firmware, featuring a range of enhancements including new GEQ, dynamic EQ and multi-band compressor emulations, increased midi control options, and improvements to the functionality in the supporting iLive Editor software and MixPad app.
