No compromise multichannel amp from Crown

Crown Audio has launched its flagship I-Tech HD Series 4x3500HD DriveCore Series four-channel power amplifier. Taking on Crown’s sixth-generation Class I engine with DriveCore technology to deliver 3,500W per channel burst into 4- or 2-Ohms, the manufacturer states that the amplifier was designed ‘entirely without compromise to be the most flexible and useful multichannel amplifier on the market today’.

Key features include a 4.3-inch TFT LCD with capacitive touchscreen, exclusive HiQnet System Architect 2.0 control functionality and Version 5 DSP preset support for Harman’s JBL Professional’s VTX Series V25 and VerTec Series line array loudspeakers.

The 2U I-Tech 4x3500HD delivers 1,900W per channel into 8-Ohms, 2,000W per channel into 4-Ohms and 4,000W into 4-Ohms bridged with all channels driven at full bandwidth. This is made possible using Crown’s DriveCore amplifier IC chip, which combines the amplifier driver stage into the power output stage (along with additional audio-signal functions) in order to dramatically reduce overall size and power-consumption requirements, whilst yielding energy-efficient operation. An added benefit of DriveCore technology is that it also gives the I-Tech 4x3500HD the ability to better control and more quickly recover from high-voltage transients.

According to the manufacturer, the I-Tech 4x3500HD provides more DSP sound-tailoring capability than any other amplifier on the market. Its proprietary BSS OmniDriveHD processing engine employs 32bit/192kHz A/D and D/A converters for sonic clarity and the ability to precisely tailor the amplifier’s audio output. Meanwhile, Crown’s linear phase FIR and IIR filters provide optimized loudspeaker crossover points with improved midrange clarity and off-axis loudspeaker response.

Key to its appeal are its four analogue inputs, four AES3 digital inputs and four AES inputs over VDrive, and its ability to select four CobraNet inputs. The amplifier also includes SpeakON or banana plug speaker connectors, as well as a Neutrik PowerCON AC input connector to prevent the power cord from coming loose in transit.

Additional useful features include Crown’s LevelMax limiter technology – which combines the operation of the amplifier’s peak, thermal and RMS limiters for more effective protection, and a front-panel USB port that enables users to load preset amplifier settings or device files and update firmware.

The amplifier is compatible with Harman HiQnet System Architect and JBL HiQnet Performance Manager, and is also compatible with the Powered By Crown iPad/iPhone application.
