Pat Rafter Stadium marks Audio Brands first FBT sale
AUSTRALIA: The Pat Rafter Arena at the Queensland Tennis Centre in Brisbane, Australia, has been installed with a new all-weather FBT Shadow series speaker system. Completed just in time for the Brisbane International, the system was provided by FBT’s new distributor Audio Brands Australia, with the aim of providing consistent coverage whilst minimising reflections. The occasion marked the first sale by Audio Brands since becoming FBT’s regional distributor.
The system was installed into the centre court – Pat Rafter Arena – in December 2013 for the Brisbane International Tennis Tournament, which saw crowds of over 105,000 fans attending over eight days. The main arena has a capacity of 5,500 and is acoustically very difficult, largely due to its open-air nature.
Prior to the installation, quite a bit of time was spent in the design phase working with Ease simulation software to calculate the best speaker locations and angles – the aim being to provide consistent coverage whilst minimising reflections.
The installed system – which was supplied to Audio Brands in under three weeks was based on a distributed design using a mix of Shadow 112CT and 112HC speakers. Both models feature a 12-inch/1-inch coaxial driver, with the driver in the 112HC being horn-loaded for longer-throw applications. The Shadow series are rated to IP55 and are designed for extreme weather conditions. As a result they are made from a single piece rotomolded enclosure, including stainless steel hardware, a three-layer water-stop grill, and circuitry protection.
According to the Italian manufacturer, the Shadow series – a family of outdoor rated speakers comprising 5-inch through to 12-inch coaxial models, a flyable subwoofer, and a high SPL outdoor line array system – provides highly intelligible speech and quality music playback.
