Portable power from SAE

Portable power from SAE

SAE Audio is targeting smaller, portable applications with its latest selection of amplifiers. The manufacturer has launched three new series of amplifiers aimed at DJ’s, professional sound enthusiasts and small‐sized venues which require ‘the functionality and sound quality of touring‐grade amplifiers’.
The DJ, Duo and XLi series each feature three different models offering different power outputs. Each new amplifier offers XLR input and SpeakOn output and is housed in an aluminium ‘unibody’ design for ‘improved heat dissipation, reduced weight and impact resistance’.

Weighing between 5kg and 5.75kg, the three Class-D models in the DJ Series are the DJ350, DJ500 and DJ650. The names reference the power output per channel in 8-ohm stereo being 350W, 500W and 650W respectively. At 4-ohm stereo the outputs are 550W, 800W and 1,050W while 8-ohm bridged sees 1,100W, 1,600W and 2,100W respectively.

The three models of the Duo series – Duo350, Duo500 and Duo650 – weigh the same, are again Class-D and feature the same power outputs in the various modes as the DJ series units. The difference comes with the on-board DSP. This can be adjusted through the amplifier front panel controls and LCD or from a USB linked computer with SAE Audio’s ASR Manager application. ASR Manager provides real-time amplifier status information and drag-and-drop edit functionality to adjust the amplifier settings.

The XLi series is SAE’s flagship product in its portable power amplifier range. The three units include the on-board DSP seen in the Duo series, but also feature upgraded output power modules. The 900XLi, 1500XLi and 2000XLi are heavier at between 9kg and 11kg, but offer a greater range of power outputs. At 8-ohm stereo the units offer two channels of 290W, 440W and 580W respectively. This increases at 4-ohm stereo to 450W, 720W and 980W then again at 2-ohm stereo to 600W, 1,000W and 1,250W per channel. In 8-ohm bridged mode, the amps provide 1,000W, 1,500W and 2,000W respectively, while 4-ohm bridged provides 1,200W, 2,100W and 2,800W.
