Renkus-Heinz provides complete coverage at Wuxi Workers’ Cultural Palace Theatre
CHINA: A US$350 million development project to equip the New Wuxi Workers’ Cultural Palace with a brand new arts and cultural centre has seen a Renkus-Heinz point source audio system installed into the complex’s 573-seat multifunctional theatre. Designed by Zheijiang Institute of Urban Investment and Development Co Ltd and supplied by CAH Professional Sound, the system is based around the manufacturer’s ST-Series Complex Conic systems.
‘The theatre is used for a wide variety of programmes, from opera and ballet to musicals, symphonies and other performances,’ explained a spokesperson for CAH Professional Sound. ‘Versatility was a critical consideration in the audio system design, and the Renkus-Heinz loudspeakers deliver high performance, high reliability, and excellent pattern control.’
The system was integrated into the theatre walls in a left-centre-right configuration to provide complete coverage of the audience area. It features a pair of STX7/64 three-way dual-12-inch loudspeakers and a pair of STX2M/64s in the centre, flanked by three STX7/94 cabinets on each side. Low frequency reinforcement is provided by a pair of groundstacked DRS18-2B direct radiating subwoofers on either side of the side, with 18 TRX61 two-way cabinets distributed for additional coverage in shaded areas, such as upstairs on the balcony level. Mixing of the main system is handled by a Yamaha PM5D 48-channel digital desk at FOH.
Performers are provided with on-stage monitoring from six TRX121 12-inch and two TRX151 15-inch enclosures, with monitor mixing provided by 40-channel Midas Verona analogue console. A pair of CF81-2 powered speakers in the control room are used for real-time monitoring of the main system. All of the speakers installed during the project are powered by QSC amplifiers.
The installation has been completed and the theatre is now hosting a regular schedule of performances, to much praise from audience members and performers alike. ‘The Renkus-Heinz system has performed well beyond even the most optimistic expectations,’ the CAH spokesperson added. ‘The sound in the theatre is clear and articulate, with excellent fidelity to every seat in the house.’
