TCTW International Co Ltd supplies audio for Golden Melody Awards
TAIWAN: TCTW International Co Ltd supplied the sound reinforcement for the recent 2012 Golden Melody Awards held at the Taipei Arena in Taiwan. Fly-Sound Co Ltd and System sound Co Ltd installed the system, which included products from JBL, Crown, BSS Audio and Soundcraft, as well as Yamaha and Riedel.
A total of 32 JBL VT4888DP-DA line array elements and six VT4886 speakers with 16 VT4882DP-DA subwoofers were deployed for FOH, whilst 18 VT4886s with six VT4883 subwoofers provided side-fill coverage. Twenty-four VT4888DP-DAs served as delays, with 24 SRX728S systems serving as ground subs and 12 SRX715 passive enclosures for front-fill. Six Crown IT12000HDs, 12 MA-9000is and six MA-5000is provided the amplification, whilst a BSS Audio FDS-366T Omnidrive Compact plus took care of loudspeaker management.
For consoles, two Soundcraft Vi-6s covered FOH, with three Vi-1s deployed for outside broadcast. Additionally, four Yamaha PM5D mixers were supplied for the music ceremony, as was an LS9 console for monitors and a Riedel audio distribution network.
‘This was a complex and star-studded occasion where we had to integrate nine sets of digital consoles, all the other audio equipment, debug the system and handle the many I/O port demands – which always cause a headache,’ admitted Peter Hou, TCTW International Co Ltd general manager. ‘The answer was Riedel RockNet plus – as it is suitable for front and back end, as well as the JBL, Crown, BSS and Soundcraft equipment.’ The team worked to overcome additional challenges such as dealing with system complexity and catering to each artist’s individual requirements.
Describing why the system was suited for the occasion, Mr Hou continued: ‘The system had less power cords and cables and a powerful and stable output whilst saving space, and the nine audio consoles demonstrated the benefits of using Riedel’s RockNet. All the audio engineers appreciated the equipment that supported all the performances. Even Ah Jiao commented that the speaker was great at supporting her voice,’ he added.
