Tascam showcases single-rack CD players

Published:

Tascam used NAMM to showcase a number of its new products, including its updated line of single-rackspace CD players: the CD-500and CD-500B.

The new slot-loading players include features such as flash start with a front-panel 10-key pad, WAV file playback, front-panel lockout, and a footswitch input. The unbalanced CD-500 includes RS-232C control, S/PDIF optical and coaxial output. The CD-500B adds balanced outputs, AES/EBU digital out and parallel control. The new transport in the CD-500 and CD-500B uses a brushless motor. The drive grabs discs from the edges instead of top and bottom, which avoids damage to the disc surface. Other features include ±16 per cent pitch control, MP3 file playback, auto ready and auto cue modes. A wireless remote control is included with the unit.

Also from the company is the CD-200iB, which adds balanced outputs to Tascam’s CD player with an integrated iPod dock. The CD-200iB is capable of ±14 per cent pitch control, CD text display, shock-proof buffer and MP3 and WAV file playback. The iPod dock includes power for Apple’s media player, as well as wireless remote control over the iPod transport. Both the CD and iPod play back from the unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR outputs. In addition there is a video output for the iPod and digital audio output for the CD player.

Tascam also launched the HS-2000 two-track and HS-4000 four-track recorders for broadcast, which both use dual Compact Flash media for recording. Confidence recording mode is available to monitor the audio off the card during recording, and a touch screen interface drives the recorder. The HS-4000 can operate in dual-deck mode, allowing it to function as two separate recorders. Other broadcast features include On-air playback mode and adding tracks to a playlist during playback. Interface options for the HS-2000 and HS-4000 include synchronisation chase through RS-422, SMPTE timecode and parallel control. Pull-up and pull-down modes are available for post production workflows, as well as video sync to HD Tri-Level. Files are recorded as BWAV format, and AES31 import/export is also available.

Meanwhile, also new from Tascam is the RC-HS32PD Remote Control Unit for the two recorders. This controller provides 32 keys for hot start with 64x32 dot matrix colour LCDs for name display. It features a colour TFT touch screen that mirrors the two recorders. Two 100mm faders include fader start by microswitch, 0dB level lock and on-air signal indication. A speaker and headphone output are provided for monitoring.

Finally, Tascam and Antares Audio Technologies have collaborated to create the TA-1VPVocal Processor, a single-rackspace processor for live performance, house of worship or studio use. The TA-1VP uses the new Evo version of Antares’ Auto-Tune processing for real-time pitch correction and doubling of the input vocal. Antares’ Microphone and Tube Modeling is also included.  It includes both a microphone input and line input. Compression, gating, de-essing and equalisation are all available for the input signal. Factory presets and user memory slots recall the ideal settings for your vocal style, and real-time Midi control is also provided.
