Third New Hope Baptist Church purchases Si Expression 2
WORLD: Third New Hope Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan conducts Sunday services at three different campuses – Main, West and Northwest. Known to offer a mixture of styles ranging from traditional hymns to contemporary Christian Rock, the Northwest campus in Farmington Hills has recently purchased a Soundcraft Si Expression 2 mixing console.
As lead sound engineer, Derrick Holmes travels between all three campuses to manage the sound installations and train volunteers. Having started his own live sound company for local bands called D&G Sound, he temporarily installed an Si Expression 3 console at the Farmington Hills campus. Highly impressed with the desk, this drove the church to invest in its own, leading to purchase of the Si Expression 2.
‘Based on my past experience as a live sound and studio engineer, I can confidently say that I’m impressed by the Si Expression Series,’ stated Mr Holmes. ‘They’re user-friendly, and they hide well behind a screen. I can sit in the theatre seat with an iPad and it feels great to control everything remotely. When I am on the board, the FaderGlow illumination makes the operation more intuitive than other boards, especially when using the console in dark environments.
‘It’s easy to teach people with relatively little experience to use the board, because it’s so intuitively designed and it sounds great,’ he concluded. ‘Considering the price-point, you get high quality in sound and construction. And the layout is very organised, so it wasn’t hard to transition people out of analogue.’
