VSM installed in China’s first 4K OB van
CHINA: China’s ‘first 4K-capable OB van’ has been outfitted with L-S-B’s Virtual Studio Manger. The new 24-camera truck was put into service earlier this year by Jiangsu Broadcast Corporation, one of the biggest broadcasting and media companies in China, incorporating several terrestrial and satellite TV and radio channels as well as newspapers and internet services. The VSM system was implemented by the manufacturer together with local partner, NDT.
The JSBC 4K is a 24-camera, double-side expansion OB van that works in full 4K and offers up to 29 workplaces. L-S-B and NDT designed and installed a VSM solution running on two separate servers in master-master configuration, using VSM’s redundancy concept. A third additional server is reportedly used for monitoring gadgets using L-S-B’s Ember+ protocol and the vSNMP application. A total of 19 VSM hardware panels work in the OB van to provide full control and individual configuration to the operators and EIC, in addition to the software-based VSM panels. The system has also reportedly been designed so that VSM has full access to the Evertz Xenon router for crosspoint routing, as well as the Sony MVS 7000x vision mixers for control, Tally, UMD and crosspoints.
For the audio section, JSBC 4K utilises a Lawo mc266 MKII console with Lawo Nova Core and Dallis Frames. VSM integrates directly with the Lawo equipment and handles crosspoint routing as well as parameter control. A Riedel intercom system comprising Riedel Artists Plus and MeditorNet is also controlled by VSM for crosspoints and parameters. Additional VSM tasks include parameter control for all EVS XT3 servers and transport control for Sony’s VTRs.
