Vi3000 arrives with SpiderCore
With a new design, 96 mix channels, onboard Dante, and the new SpiderCore internal DSP, Soundraft’s Vi3000 has finally arrived. The manufacturer promises a host of state-of-the-art features in a very compact footprint, making it an ‘all-in-one’ digital live sound console.
Firstly, the console is running the latest Vi Version 4.8 operating software. This, combined with the DSP SpiderCore chip - the same DSP/CPU technology currently employed sister company Studer’s consoles - allow the console to make use of 40-bit floating point DSP processing and the new 3D Vistonics user interface. A fourth 24-channel fader layer has been added, providing quick access to all of the console’s 96 channels, and the microphone preamps have also been upgraded.
The redesigned surface contains 96 faders, 24 mono/stereo busses, and four Vistonics II touchscreens, whilst connectivity round the back includes Midi, USB, Ethernet, DVI out, Dante/Madi record feed outputs, redundant power supply and other standard connections.
The unit also features two expansion bays compatible with Madi Stagebox cards to connect multiple Stagebox input expander modules, a Dante interface built-in as standard, and can also accommodate the manufacturer’s newly released RealTime Rack. The rack is compatible with all Vi series consoles, allows for full snapshot store and recall within the console’s CUE/Snapshot system, and is capable of processing up to 16 channels of a Madi stream (additional units can be added to provide 32, 48, or 64 channels).
As well as the new features, the console still includes Soundcraft’s patented FaderGlow technology, the ability to store and recall snapshots and cues, and is still compatible with the ViSi remote control app.
Soundcarft’s Realtime Rack has now also been released. It consists of a library of UAD plug-ins from Universal Audio compatible with all Soundcraft Vi Series digital consoles.
The hardware and software allows users to integrate UAD plug-Ins with ‘ultra-low latency’ and have full snapshot store and recall within the console's CUE/Snapshot system. The rack is housed in a 1U enclosure, and is capable of processing up to 16 channels of a Madi stream. Additional units can be added for 32, 48 or 64 channels.
There are two versions of the rack: the Core comes preloaded with 14 classic Harman and UAD plug-ins, while the Ultimate comes loaded with 72 plug-ins including emulations of analogue hardware from brands including Neve, Studer, Lexicon and Manley.
The rack’s software runs on a separate Mac computer and gives the operator the control needed to insert UAD plug-ins on individual channels, auxiliary channels, and master busses. A snapshot system allows for total recall of all plug-ins and their settings. Tight network integration with Vi Series consoles ensures that all settings of the plug-ins are stored inside the console.
One Realtime Rack can run 16 channel strips each with up to eight plug-ins inserted. The racks can also be daisy-chained to up to four units, processing 64 channels simultaneously.
