Yanni returns to India with J Davis ProSound & Lighting
INDIA: Making his return to India for the first time in 17 years, composer and pianist, Yanni has recently given performances in Chennai and Bangalore as part of his current world tour. J Davis ProSound & Lighting was chosen to provide technical solutions for both events consisting of sound, lighting, visual and trussing equipment.
‘Its definitely a dream come true for me to be providing technical support for the Yanni India Tour, which I never ever dreamt of being involved with,’ said Santana Davis from J Davis ProSound & Lighting. ‘I have grown up listening to his music and now doing a show for Yanni is just amazing.’
The band last played in India 17 years ago, and their favourite sound system, L-Acoustics V-DOSC, had to be specially flown in to the country. That was not the case this time, and in Chennai, J Davis provided a total of 54 L-Acoustics boxes were used. 24 V-DOSC and 24 DV-VOSC formed the main array, with hangs of 12 V-DOSC and 6 DV-DOSC flown either side of the stage. Low-end reinforcement was provided by eight Sb218 subs (four under each main array), and 10 L-Acoustics Arcs spread across the stage for centre fill.
In Bangalore a slightly smaller system was used with the main flown arrays consisting of 16 V-DOSC (eight per side), with a further eight V-DOSC ground stacked, four each side. Four DV-DOSC were used for centre fills, eight DV-DOSC with four per side for L/R delays, and four SB 218 subwoofers under each array. Stage monitoring, microphones, FOH and monitoring consoles were supplied by Yanni’s sound team for the duration of the tour. An Axxent Intercom System used for behind the scenes communications at both events consisted of a Basestation and eight beltpack transmitters.
Lighting for both events consisted of over 150 fixtures, comprising 22 Clay Paky Moving Head 1200 Spots, 12 Clay Paky Moving Head Washes, 20 ETC Profile Spots, eight 4 Lite Molefays, 76 parcans, 12 3W Boxer LED Pars and four 2,5000W Follow spots. All fixtures were attached to the stage trussing along with four haze machines. Control came courtesy of Pulsar Dimmer Racks and a Whole Hog consoles provided by Yanni’s team.
Graflex Inc AV & Trussing, a division of J Davis Prosound & Lighting, oversaw the trussing and video requirements for both events. ‘At Chennai the trussing was provided by Men At Work,’ commented Anil Kumar, parter and ‘tech head’ at Graflex Inc, ‘while at Bangalore we provided a six pillar Wiefa setup of 20 x 16 x 6m, with height of the venue being a major concern.’
With regards to Video, at Chennai an LED wall was provided which comprised of 5mm Black Face Slim line LED Panels. A 5m x 3m LED Wall was positioned on either side of the stage. In Bangalore, the same setup was used, with two additional L/R delay screens positioned further back. Finally, the team supplied four Sony HDC-1700 HD cameras, four HDCU-1500 control units, two 15-inch LCD Sony HD monitors, a 46-inch Sony LED monitor, and a Panasonic AV-HS450N 16 Input HD Video Switch.
