A Shield of Blackmagic
Blackmagic Design’s 3G-SDI Arduino Shield enables users of the manufacturer’s cameras and SDI devices to build custom controllers. An SDI expansion board for Arduino microcontrollers, the interface card also allows the creation of customisable solutions for use with the Arduino open-source electronics prototyping platform.
The manufacturer describes the 3G-SDI Arduino Shield as a ‘simple expansion board’, with an SDI input and an SDI output. Camera control commands can be found in the instruction manual and added to the Arduino software code, which then delivers the commands to the SDI link via the Blackmagic 3G-SDI Arduino Shield.
In other news, Blackmagic has also released the Atem Switcher 6.9 update, which brings additional functionality to all Atem Production Studio 4K and Atem 2 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K models. This includes new multi-view output features, such as VU meters and the capability to swap programme and preview windows. Users are also now able to create specific multi-view layouts, depending on the requirements of a live production. Rotational DVE functions are also added to the Atem 2 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K model.
Finally, an updated version of the Blackmagic Duplicator software is now available to download from the Blackmagic website. The 1.0.2 update is focused on improving playback performance of H.265 video files to allow customers to use slower computers and a wider range of 4K televisions to play back high frame rate Ultra HD H.265 files.
