Additions throughout the signal chain from Extron
Extron has added to its extensive portfolio with new audio equipment throughout the signal chain. The manufacturer has unveiled new processors, amps and speakers targeted at A/V installation.
Starting with the processors, the LinkLicense SMP 351 Dual Recording upgrade enables enhanced recording, streaming and audio DSP capabilities for the SMP 351 H.264 streaming media processor. The upgrade allows the recording of two sources simultaneously at resolutions of up to 1080p/30 and bit-rates up to 10Mbps. The update also allows for advanced audio DSP features including level controls, filtering and compressors.
Meanwhile, the SMP 352 Dual Recording H.264 streaming media processor is the latest addition to Extron’s SMP 300 series, and offers processing for capturing and distributing A/V sources as live streaming or recorded media. Additionally, it can create independent recordings from two different sources and incorporates FlexOS, a flexible platform for automating system operation. The product also accepts HDMI, component, composite and optional 3G-SDI signals, applying two-window processing to selected sources. Recording and streaming simultaneously is also possible on the SMP 352, as well as streaming two different resolutions and bit rates concurrently using a range of transport protocols and session management options.
Further down the signal chain, Extron has announced the availability of the XTRA Series XPA 1002-70V. The product is a half rack, convection cooled power amplifier that delivers two channels of 100W for 70V distributed speakers. It also boasts a 100dB signal-to-noise ratio and 0.1 per cent THD+N specifications, implementing a Class-D amplifier design and patented CDRS – Class - technology. The amplifier consumes 10W when idle and less than 1W in standby, with an inrush current draw to prevent power circuit overload. This eliminates the need for power sequencing in systems with multiple amplifiers in large, centralised equipment racks and prevents other equipment from experiencing power interruption from associated power surges. The amp is UL 2043 plenum rated when used with the optional flexible conduit adapter kit, allowing for a concealed installation above a drop ceiling.
Finally, the SoundField XD series SF 3C LP and SF 3CT LP full-range ceiling speakers feature a low profile composite back can, for use in plenum rated ceiling environments. The three-inch full range driver has been redesigned and features a frequency range of 65Hz to 20kHz, engineered with a conical dispersion of 165-degrees. The products are designed for 8-ohm direct connection to power amplifiers and provide a means to wire speakers in parallel for 4-ohm amplifier operation. With a behind-the-grill, six position power selector switch, the SF 3CT LP allows for either direct 8-ohm or 70/100V operation.
Both products are constructed using a two-piece modular design with a separable back can and baffle. They also include a cable/conduit access plate that can be orientated for side mount, low clearance ceilings, or for top mount. Opti-Torque indicator rings provide visual indication when the locking arm screws have been sufficiently tightened. Both of the models feature a round bezel and magnetic grille.
