Anna covers First United Methodist
USA: First United Methodist Church of Cañon City in Colorado recently upgraded its sound reinforcement solution, calling upon DK Audio Video, a solutions provider that operates across all manner of markets, but specialises in church installs. DK’s staff includes those with experience as a local worship pastor, church sound technician and of touring with Christian bands.
The project requirement was for a solution that would meet the church’s intelligibility and sonic needs. The DK team would, however, need to work around rigging restrictions imposed by the building’s listed status on the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties.
‘The room has a lot of reflection issues with a really high reverb, so intelligibility was important,’ states Lucas Lafferty, owner of DK Audio Video. ‘Plus, we had to work with the same hanging points of the original cluster – no new drilling allowed.’
Mr Lafferty specified a solution comprising a centre cluster of two EAW Anna line array modules. The manufacturer’s Resolution 2 software was used to optimise coverage throughout the sanctuary.
‘Fortunately, I was familiar with EAW’s Anna line array,’ says the DK Audio Video owner. ‘I knew it would allow us to place sound on the seating area, keep it off hard surfaces and, because of its compact size, could be installed exactly where the old cluster was.
‘We needed to throw 36m to the back of the sanctuary and cover 12m across,’ Mr Lafferty continues. ‘Once we plugged those specifications into Resolution, along with where the cluster had to be hung, we were set. We used the built in DSP and had the system optimised in no time. People come up to us amazed that they can actually hear the service. The church is beyond pleased with the end result.’
