Annie calls on Prosound
SOUTH AFRICA: Prosound recently deployed Meyer Sound, DPA Microphones and Midas Pro Series solutions for the production of the musical Annie that ran at Artscape’s Opera in Cape Town following a stint in Johannesburg at the Teatro at Montecasino. The Prosound team was led by technical director Mark Malherbe, while the equipment used was sourced from Gearhouse’s theatre rental company, Splitbeam.
The cast was split into three, which presented triple the sound requirements in terms of EQ, dynamics and gain levels. A vast amount DPA d:screet 4061 headset microphones was therefore required, each colour matched to the skin tone of the individual actors and fit to the size and shapes of their heads.
In addition to the 4061 headset mics, DPA 4099 and Audio-Technica ATM-350 instrument microphones were used by the band. For reinforcement, Meyer Sound M'elodie line array cabinets were installed, 12 per side. Front-fill was via five M1s and providing coverage under the balconies was a combination of M1 and UPM systems. A Midas Pro 9 was used to handle the main mixing duties, while a Midas Pro 1 was employed to cover stem mixes onstage.
