blueFROG re-enlists Munro and L-Acoustics for Pune nightclub

Published: ASIA

INDIA: Following the opening of venues in Delhi and Mumbai, the blueFrog chain of nightclubs has opened up a third nightclub in Pune. As with the others, the club aims to make each and every performance given at the venue a memorable experience for all involved, and to this end opted to install an audio system comprised from L-Acoustics’ XTi Architectural Series.

blueFROG commissioned Munro Acoustics India to specify a high-end system capable of delivering enough power and warmth to satisfy both the range of musical genres frequenting the stage as well as the ‘young and demanding local community’ that the club attracts.

The chain’s venues are also increasingly becoming known for their strikingly modern interior design. The venue in Pune is no exception, with two full-length glass walls providing the designers with significant reflectivity issues. This consideration, in particular, led to the acoustic consultant for Munro Acoustics, Kapil Thirwani, selecting four 12XTi point-source enclosures for the main FOH system and six 8XTi enclosures as delay fills. Additional bass was provided by a pair of SB28 subwoofers and power for the speakers comes from LA4 and LA8 amplifiers respectively.

The installation took 10 days to complete but a further week was spent optimising the system before the first live shows took place. ‘The architect was very helpful in the process. Many times we are given pre-defined points to hang our speakers and that's so often a major stumbling block, but here in Pune we were given free rein to do what was best for the sound, which really helped,’ explained Mr Thirwani. ‘To overcome the challenging reflections, we played with the height and the splay angles of the XT system and then worked out an acoustic model to avoid these unwanted reflections. It worked perfectly.’

‘We use the XTs in our Mumbai venue and for Pune there was no other option in my mind, as the XT system offers a clean, powerful aural output, no matter the genre of music. And of course, music is the main ingredient of this space, as every night there is a band, DJ or live act.

‘The amplifiers are also magnificent pieces of equipment. They give the designer full flexibility to route signals discretely, which always helps the FOH engineer in panning and playing with the delays. It really is the best amplifier and processor system I have ever come across, so I'll never use anything else.’

For everyday operation the system runs at a comfortable 112db to 115dB, but can be driven much higher if required. ‘I think in the XT Series, L-Acoustics has used some really outstanding drivers that perform entirely seamlessly across all the frequency bands. It's a great sounding system here in Pune, and the blueFROG managing director, Simran Mulchandani, thinks so too, which is just what we like to hear!’

‘We will most definitely continue to use L-Acoustics in all of our music venue projects,’ stated Mr Mulchandani. ‘Our patrons have reacted very positively – many of them are in awe of the sound – and all of our home-grown Indian artists as well as international visiting artists have only had positive things to say about the sound, which is fantastic.’
