Busy summer for Delta engineers
UAE: The intense heat of the UAE summer sees a slowdown in business for the local rental companies as the market for outdoor gigs grinds to a halt. To counter this, Dubai-based rental house, Delta Sound, has sent its engineers to work on some major events in other parts of the region for the 2016 summer season. Two of the main highlights have been the Azerbaijan Formula One Grand Prix concerts and Enrique Iglesias’ performance in Jordan.
The Baku concerts saw the race organiser draw inspiration from the season-ending event in Abu Dhabi. Over three days, the F1 crowd were treated to Yasalam-style extra entertainment with the Grand Prix ticket also granting access to concerts from Pharrell Williams, Chris Brown and Enrique Iglesias. As such, the organiser decided to call in the same suppliers that work on the Abu Dhabi concerts and PRG contracted Delta Sound to work with it to support the audio delivery.
Along with its engineers, Delta supplied additional PA for the concerts. This called on an L-Acoustics rig with K1, K2 and SB28 cabinets put to use. The rental house was also responsible for the full control package including DiGiCo consoles and Sennheiser in-ear monitors. One of the major advantages that Delta brought to the concert series was that it had provided technical support to all of the artists in the past. This experience has been described as ‘invaluable’ for the Baku gigs.
‘The most interesting thing about this job is I believe it was one of the first times that Dubai production has been exported elsewhere for a major event,’ said Delta Sound’s Dubai general manager Andy Jackson. ‘Much of the production was sourced from Dubai and I think that says a lot about the current standards available in Dubai.’
It was another Enrique Iglesias concert that provided the second highlight of Delta’s summer. Working in partnership with Tritec AV, Delta engineers were called in for the artist’s Amman performance in August.
Tritec supplied the racks and stacks for the event and commissioned Delta to provide the engineers and a complete control and split package. Delta engineers interfaced the equipment with that of Tritec and assisted in system setup and alignment. The previous relationship with Enrique Iglesias’ technical team again proved beneficial with the rental house advancing the show technically with the performer’s engineers, then ensuring what has been described as ‘a smooth running build and show’.
‘Supporting large events such as these over the summer months is a real bonus for us during our quiet period,’ concluded Mr Jackson. ‘These have set us up nicely for the season ahead.’
