AUSTRALIA: Australian cinema chain, Hoyts, has reportedly installed the country’s first Christie RGB laser projection system at its new branch in Melbourne’s Chadstone shopping centre. The facility comprises 13 auditoriums, one of which has been dubbed the ‘Xtremescreen’. This auditorium seats 390 cinemagoers and boasts a 24m-wide screen with projection from Christie’s CP42LH 3DLP 4K RGB laser projector.

‘The Christie RGB laser projection system launching in our biggest cinema at Hoyts Chadstone will redefine the digital cinema experience by achieving the brightest and the most realistic colour reproduction, higher contrast and dramatically reduced maintenance requirements, resulting in rich and vibrant visuals,’ enthused Adam Wrightson, general manager at Hoyts Cinema Technology Group. ‘We are also impressed by the flexibility of the system, whereby laser modules can easily be added, removed, activated or disabled depending on the brightness requirements, so it is highly scalable and easily upgradable.’

‘Making a trip to the movies a memorable experience is important for us and introducing Christie’s cutting-edge projector is part of making that happen,’ added Hoyts’ group CEO, Damian Keogh. In addition to the CP42LH, the manufacturer’s Solaria Series CP2220, CP2230 and CP4230 projectors have been installed the in the remaining 12 auditoriums at Chadstone shopping centre.

Meanwhile, Hoyts Cinema Technology Group (Hoyts CTG), which also serves as a solutions provider for cinema technology, has entered into a three-year partnership alongside Christie with Palace Cinemas. The agreement will see Palace Cinemas invest in almost 70 of the manufacturer’s cinema projectors, all of which will be installed and serviced by Hoyts CTG cross its sites throughout Australia. During the course of the next two years, Palace Cinemas also plan to expand its presence in the country by doubling its number of screens. These new screens will also call upon Christie projectors and the services of Hoyts CTG.

‘It is rewarding to have Palace Cinemas place their trust in Christie and Hoyts CTG to deliver cost-effective fit-for-purpose solutions and provide the best service and support for their projection and sound requirements,’ said Mr Wrightson. ‘The signing of this agreement is further recognition of my team of dedicated technical professionals and the outstanding work and customer first approach we deliver to all of our independent cinema clients.’

‘Together with Hoyts CTG, our trusted partner with decades of industry experience and proficiency, we will provide high-quality, innovative shared experiences for Palace Cinemas’ customers,’ furthered Michael Bosworth, general manager, Christie Australia. ‘We are delighted to provide Palace Cinemas with our high-value projectors under this exclusive supply agreement.’

‘State-of-the-art projection and sound are both essential to a great cinema experience,’ concluded Benjamin Zeccola, chief executive at Palace Cinemas. ‘We are delighted to be working with Christie and Hoyts CTG to provide this for our customers.’
