Christie’s CP42LH now showing in China
CHINA: For its recently opened theatres in Shanghai and Zhenjiang, Suning Commerce Group-owned cinema chain, Suning Cinema, opted for an RGB laser projection system from Christie Digital. The Zhenjiang branch will reportedly be the first theatre in China to feature the system, which features enhanced wavelength diversification (EWD).
The Zhenjiang Suning Cinema has opened in the district’s new shopping mall, Suning Plaza. The system deployed in its premium auditorium includes the first Chinese cinema installation of the Christie CP42LH. The projection system generates white light through its laser modules by combining multiple RGB primary colour wavelengths – hence, enhanced wavelength diversification.
‘We compared several 3D cinema projection systems but nothing came close to the quality and performance of the Christie CP42LH,’ noted general manager, cinema operations at Suning Cinema, Dalei Duan. ‘This is the most vibrant and colourful 3D visual experience that I’ve seen in a large-screen theatre. We’re pleased to note that the Christie CP42LH delivers remarkable performance at both locations, and have no doubt that patrons are getting the best possible visuals.’
The Suning Cinema in Shanghai’s Fengxian District, meanwhile, has been equipped with a Christie 6P laser projection system made up of two CP42LH 3DLP 4K RGB laser projection heads and a 6P modular laser light farm, which offers fibre optic delivery. This system has been installed in the cinema’s Hall Six auditorium and provides laser-illuminated projection with 3D capabilities.
‘Our 6P laser projection system is designed to achieve exceptional brightness in 3D,’ added deputy general manager of Christie China, Jason Pei. ‘The CP42LH RGB laser projection system featuring EWD significantly reduces the impact of speckle on silver screens and enables exhibitors to continue using their existing silver screens and passive 3D systems. We are delighted that Zhenjiang Suning Cinema has placed its trust in our cutting-edge RGB laser projection systems, and we look forward to more collaboration in the future.’
Suning Cinema has ambitious plans to open more than 200 cinema complexes across China over the next five years. Christie are poised to continue to work alongside the chain to install more of its laser projection systems. ‘There are enormous opportunities to be tapped in cultural assets development and with the increasing demand for cultural assets such as cinemas, we believe that collaborating with Christie and investing in the best visual technologies, such as the RGB laser projection system, is the way to go,’ explained Mr Duan.
‘I would like to congratulate Zhenjiang Suning Cinema for being the first cinema chain in China to deploy our Christie CP42LH featuring EWD,’ concluded Christie Asia Pacific vice president, Lin Yu. ‘We look forward to working more closely with Suning Cinema, and having more exhibitors installing our RGB laser projection system in their premium large format theatres across China.’
