Clean sound and sightlines for Guangzhou’s Tianhe Church
CHINA: Since its opening in 2016, the Tianhe Church has become the largest house of worship in the city of Guangzhou, as well as becoming China’s third largest church. The newly-built church has been well attended from the outset, offering a venue for worship and receptions, as well as other activities. The church’s external and internal architecture combines modern elements with traditional Chinese art and it comprises a main worship area, a baptistery, a bell tower, an education centre and an administration building – with the entire complex occupying an area of 9,431m2.
The German audio and media systems used in the main worship area and baptistery complement the modern aesthetics. Fohhn Audio’s distribution partner, Shoushan System Integration, has installed loudspeakers from the manufacturer's Linea and Arc series. According to Fohhn, the systems deliver high levels of speech intelligibility for worship applications, along with first-class music reproduction and a design that blends with building interiors.
In the church’s main worship area, which accommodates around 2000 visitors, four white Linea LX-500 loudspeakers form the main PA system, tasked with providing sound coverage at ground level and in the gallery. These are installed on either side of the stage area where, due to the room’s tall stained glass windows, they are said to be unobtrusive.
At the edge of the stage, four Arc AT-601 systems are used as nearfield speakers. On festive occasions, these are concealed behind floral arrangements. In contrast, four AS-40 subwoofers have been rendered permanently invisible by being integrated into the front of the stage. Serving as delays beneath the gallery are four AT-05 systems.
In the baptistery, four Linea AL-100 line source systems form the main sound system. These have been installed on either side of the window behind the walk-in font – adjacent to two large screens on which song lyrics and scripture can be displayed.
The entire setup is driven by three of Fohhn’s D-4.750 multi-channel, Class-D amplifiers and the same number of D-2.1500 units. A central media solution in the church's control room provides control.
