Clip effects come to Pro Tools with version 12.6

Published:

Avid unveiled a spread of audio-related announcements at this year’s IBC exhibition, including a new 12.6 version of Pro Tools together with a new Dante Option Card and software for Venue S6L systems. On the visual side, the manufacturer is increasing interoperability between Media Central platform and Adobe’s Premiere Pro CC suite via the new MediaCentral UX connector.

With Pro Tools 12.6, users can now apply real-time, non-destructive audio effects on a clip-by-clip basis rather than channel (HD Version only), including EQ or dynamics on a single clip or group. These clip effects can also be layered over the top of each other, enabling clip specific processing. There is also a different setting that affects a block of clips so that they all work together. Together with layered editing features and automating playlist creation, the manufacturer is aiming to make audio editing in Pro Tools a more flexible affair than in previous versions. Meanwhile, Pro Tools users are now able to purchase or subscribe to Pro Tools HD software as a standalone product, independent of hardware bundles.

Moving onto Avid’s Venue S6L live mixing system, the new Venue DNT-192 Dante Option Card enables engineers to connect the S6L with Dante-enabled devices and existing Dante networks. It is a 16-channel audio interface card, providing connectivity and communication to the Venue S6L while reportedly preserving the original quality of the sound sources. The DNT-192 also enables users to integrate the S6L with a network of Gigabit Dante-enabled decides avoiding the issues of analogue connection such as signal degradation, crosstalk and electrical interference. Up to six Dante cards can be installed in a single Stage 64 for a maximum total of 64 inputs and 32 outputs per rack.

In addition, the Dante Controller software offers a solution to configure cards and devices, monitoring signal health, status and route audio throughout a network. Automatic device discovery, one-click signal routing and both user-editable devices and channel labels can also be used.

The Venue system has also received an update with the Venue 5.2 software release. The software’s I/O sharing and gain tracking features enable the sharing of Stage 64 I/O racks across two Venue S6L systems. Avid True Gain Technology automatically manages gain compensation to ensure signal levels in each engineer’s mix, providing all engineers on the network with the exact same experience, including independent control of all input gain levels. Other enhancements in Venue 5.2 include support for up to four HDX-192 Expansion Cards in the E6L-192 engine, doubling the plugin processing power. A free, standalone version of Venue 5.2 also enables engineers to work on S6L show files offline.

Meanwhile the Avid MediaCentral UX connector for Adobe Premiere Pro CC enables user connectivity into Avid’s production environment through the MediaCentral platform. Using the extension panel, users can collaborate with Avid users, while mixing and matching tools to fit their workflow needs and budgets. The UX connector presents the MediaCentral UX user interface within the Adobe Premiere Pro CC user interface. Creative service departments that use Premier Pro can reportedly benefit from access to additional production assets, and production teams can leverage the large installed base of trained Adobe users. Editors can reportedly manage any type of asset, automate non-creative production tasks, and reduce operational costs throughout the production process.
