CTSA streams on Facebook Live
USA: The Archdiocese of San Antonio is no stranger to sharing content with a wider audience having setup and operated its television station, Catholic Television of San Antonio (CTSA), for more than 35 years. CTSA uses a TVU Networks TVUPack TM8100 4G/LTE backpack transmitter to broadcast video content produced onsite in its studio and coverage of local events, such as holiday celebrations and graduations at the nearby Catholic High School. The catholic television station purchased its TVUPack earlier this year, having enjoyed great success in renting one for an event last year. It is now the first house of worship customer of TVU Networks to add the system’s Facebook Live component.
Facebook is fast approaching 2 billion monthly active users, providing a portal through which a house of worship can spread its message, reaching followers locally and throughout the world. The archdiocese has already begun making use of Facebook Live’s integration with the TVUPack TM1800 by streaming its daily mass services live on its Facebook account. The TVU Networks device works by transmitting mobile video uplinks over IP.
‘Adding the Facebook live component gives us a reach we could never think of achieving though traditional means,’ explains CTSA operations manager, Dagoberto Patlan. ‘The potential for viewership from catholics from all over the world is just astounding. Not only does this serve those who are shut-ins or the infirmed, but parishioners who’ve relocated from San Antonio, like serving military and college students away from home. They can now tune in either live or play the mass back later in the day, maintaining that connection to home and to their religion.’
CTSA plans to produce live streams on its Facebook page for a variety of other events at the Archdiocese of San Antonio, including prayer services and press conferences. It will also produce on-location Facebook Live content at events such as World Youth Day with Pope Francis, which can be viewed by the archdiocese’s Facebook followers back in San Antonio and those around the world.
‘Our core mission is outreach by media channels,’ concludes Mr Patlan. ‘The TVU Pack with Facebook integration helps us fulfill that mission – to a tee.’
