d&b braves the elements in Shanghai’s Happy Valley
CHINA: As a Class4A tourist spot in China, Shanghai Happy Valley, located at the scenic Shehan tourism resort, plays host to variety of spectacular shows from around the world. Lake of Illusions, the latest performance to be staged at the 1,500-spectator Lake Centre, is a large-scale night time performance incorporating music, lighting, fire and water. Offering spectators a panoramic view, the show was reinforced by a d&b audiotechnik V-Series weather resistant loudspeaker system supplied and supported by the manufacturer’s Chinese distributor, Sound Works Supplies.
Lake of Illusions was created, designed and produced by ECA2, a French event production company specialising in multimedia shows and large-scale events and which is notable for its involvement in the 1998 French World Cup and both the opening and closing ceremonies of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The audio system used to cater for the production saw 12 Vi8 full range cabinets deployed for the middle and far field, six Vi12 WR aimed at the near field and six Vi-Sub WR to take care the low end. Additional E12-D WRs were used for side-fill. The whole system was driven by d&b D80 and D20 amplifiers, which can also be remote controlled through the d&b remote network via Ethernet or CAN-Bus.
The complete equipment installation took the team a month, with a further month spent rigorously programming the audio systems to ensure its safety and stability of daily operation. That attention to detail paid dividends however, with sold out crowds nearly every night since opening.
