Damien Wilson promoted to Freedman Electronics Group CEO
WORLD: Damien Wilson has been promoted from his role as sales and marketing director of Røde Microphones to the position of CEO of the microphone manufacturer’s parent company: The Freedman Electronics Group. In his new role, Mr Wilson will oversee the day-to-day management of the group, which includes pro audio brands Aphex, Event Electronics and SoundField, as well as Røde.
The move comes as the group’s founder and managing director, Peter Freedman, looks to embrace new challenges within the business. As Mr Wilson assumes the responsibilities of CEO, Mr Freedman will gain the opportunity to work in areas such as product development and brand acquisition, and to serve as the face of the brand on a global basis.
During his time at Røde, Mr Wilson gained a complete knowledge of the business’ operations and has been involved with product design, development, production sourcing and dispatch, in addition to providing a worldwide presence for the brand across both sales and the supply chain. Prior to joining the company, he served as creative director at a pair of boutique advertising agencies, which led to his start at Røde as a marketing manager. He soon worked his way up to the position of Røde global sales and marketing director and went on to serve as general manager of Røde Microphones in the US.
‘I’ve had an incredible time at Røde over the past nine years, developing new markets, making terrific friends around the world and absorbing the lessons of business at every step from Peter, who has been a real mentor,’ said Mr Wilson. ‘This challenge is the right move at the right time. I love Røde and the pro audio industry, which remains full of blue sky potential, and look forward to building further upon our world-class team and capability in all brands and departments. Ultimately, we want to keep creating incredible products that enable our customers’ creativity. It’s a terrific opportunity.’
‘Damien is the perfect person to help me guide the company through a very exciting time in our 50-year history,’ enthused Mr Freedman. ‘He’s extremely talented and a proven Røde warrior – dedicated, creative, solution-oriented, exceptionally hard-working and an excellent communicator with team members, customers and stakeholders. In November, The Freedman Electronics Group recorded its biggest ever month in business, and with fantastic new product offerings from Røde, Event, Aphex and SoundField all on the horizon, it will be a period of great change and, we predict, even larger growth. I can think of no better person to guide the various brands and departments through these great opportunities than Damien.’
