dBTechnologies DVA evolves with K Series
Italian manufacturer dBTechnologies has introduced the latest generation of its popular DVA line array, naming it the DVA K Series.
Included is the full range, 3-way DVA K5 module, which boasts a 500W RMS (1,000W peak), convection-cooled, Class-D G3 digital amplifier module. According to the Bologna-based company, the K5’s design is intended to reflect the qualities that proved popular in the earliest DVA model, the T4, while incorporating more advanced technology partially derived from the most recent model T8.
Also in the upgraded range are two active subwoofers: the 1,000W RMS hybrid horn-loaded DVA KS10, and the double 18-inch, horn-loaded reflex KS20, which delivers 2,000W RMS.
The key to the range, however, is the K5, which comprises two 1.4-inch tweeters plus two neodymium woofers, a 6-inch and an 8-inch. The polypropylene enclosure produces a maximum SPL of 129dB (peak) with a crossover frequency of 340Hz for the low-mid and 18KHz for the mid-high. Dispersion for the cabinet is rated at 100-degrees (h) x 15-degrees (v), while each module weighs 14.2kg, measuring 9.84-inches (w) x 9.45-inches (h) x 14.57-inches (d).
Crucially, the system’s onboard DSP allows precise tuning, with double rotary encoders offering separate tuning for LF correction (coupling) and MF/HF correction (high-angle midrange loss and air absorption compensation due to throw distance). The module’s electronics and components are housed in a polypropylene box, reinforced with an internal anti-vibration metal structure to reduce resonance.
In terms of low end, the single 18-inch KS10 is rated at 1,000W RMS with a maximum SPL of 134dB and a frequency response of 39Hz to 120Hz (-3dB). The larger, double 18-inch KS20 delivers a reported 2,000W RMS, has a maximum SPL of 138dB and a frequency response of 34Hz to 120Hz (-3dB). The enclosures for both subs are constructed from birch plywood.
Finally, the DVA K5 comes with a newly designed front grille and an integrated rain-cover.
