dbx adds Dante with DriveRack Venu360 option
Harman Professional brand dbx has expanded the DriveRack Venu360 loudspeaker management system with the introduction of Dante and Blu link enabled versions. The units lead a number of product introductions including DI boxes and 500 series signal processing units.
Named the Venu360D and Venu360B respectively, the new units also boast the manufacturer’s proprietary AutoEQ and Advanced Feedback Suppression (AFS) algorithms plus additional input channels, Ethernet control via an Android, iOS, Mac, or Windows device and updated wizards. An RTA microphone is included for use with the AutoEQ algorithm, allowing speaker levels and room EQ to be set up automatically using sine sweeps.
Meanwhile the brand’s Di and CT ranges now encompass the Di4, Di1 and DJdi boxes, plus the CT3 and CT2 cable testing accessories.
The Di4 four-channel direct box has been designed to convert unbalanced signals into balanced output while also functioning as a multi-channel stereo line mixer. Described as having ‘all the features of a gig-ready workhorse Di unit’, the box also offers a level and impedance matching function, signal pass through, phantom power, ground lift, and a 10Hz to 70kHz (+0dB/-3dB) frequency response. In contrast, the DJdi has two-channels with a variable input signal attenuator.
In terms of cable testing, the CT3 has a split design for testing cables at the plug-in source and offers connectors including RJ45, RJ11, MIDI, Speaker Twist, XLR, RCA Phono, BNC, DIN, TRS, TS, DMX and Banana. The CT2 caters for connectors such as Speaker Twist, XLR, Phono, BNC, DIN, TRS, TS, DMX and Banana, and includes LED indicators plus a rotary dial.
In terms of 500 Series modules, the dbx 540 is a single-slot 500 Series Class-A tube microphone preamp with switchable phantom power and a fast in-line optical compressor. The interchangeable 12AX7 preamp tube is intended to facilitate customisation. Also a 500 Series module, the dbx 565 is a dual-channel optical compressor incorporating a Linkwitz-Riley fourth-order (24dB/octave) crossover slope, a master level display with a VU meter, a gain reduction LED, and independent compression, attack and release controls plus a circuit bypass switch. The 555 five-band parametric EQ, 570 high-Z input and the 590 phase manipulator further fill out the range.
Finally, PowerBlock3 and PowerRack3 both feature power sources designed to house up to three 500 Series modules. The rear panel comes with three slots of balanced XLR inputs and outputs together with three slots of unbalanced ¼-inch inputs and outputs. A 48V phantom power switch is located on the front, whilst the chassis is fully compatible with the 500 Series format, but in horizontal and vertical orientations respectively.
