DMP Musik gets the sound Funktioning at Finn’s Beach Club
INDONESIA: Pantai Berawa, Canggu is an up and coming area of Bali that has recently seen a lot of development take place as it looks to grow its tourism industry. At the heart of this regeneration is Finn’s Beach Club, which due to a surge in visitors required a new sound system that would surpass patron expectations. Therefore, Surabaya-based DMP Musik was called upon to install a solution and at the client’s request designed a setup built around Funktion-One.
‘The owner surveyed popular beach clubs in Bali and found that he was really impressed by Funktion-One speakers and how they were capable of delivering such a different audio experience that immensely elevated people's moods,’ recalled DMP Musik’s Kenny Soewondo. ‘Afterwards, he contacted us and we regularly flew from Surabaya to Denpasar to install the sound system at Finn’s Beach Club as well as other installation projects that we were doing on the island.’
The solution installed comprised five Funktion-One Resolution 4E and five compact F81 loudspeakers with two F55 ultra-compact units and 26 F101 cabinets as well as four F1201 and a pair of Resolution 1 speakers. Handling the low frequencies are three BR118, six F118Mk2 and three F218Mk2 subwoofers along with an MB210LP and an MB212. A total of nine FBT CSL630T ceiling speakers have also been equipped to complement the system, which is powered by a combination of Funktion-One and Yamaha amplifiers and controlled via NST Audio controllers with Yamaha matrix processors.
‘The client required coverage to every single zone with unique audio needs throughout the venue,’ explained Kenny Soewondo. ‘The system consisted primarily of Funktion-One speakers distributed and installed throughout the venue, with varying models chosen specifically to fulfil each zone’s needs. The larger models such as the Resolution for areas that required a higher SPL and smaller models such as the F101 and F55 for the areas that did not need a high SPL.’
The DMP Musik team were faced with a couple of challenges during the project, not least the humid climate in Bali that can wreak havoc on an outside installation. ‘Indonesia is already very humid, so being right by the ocean presents us with even more challenging conditions, especially for the electronics,’ noted Kenny Soewondo. ‘To overcome this, we ordered special weatherproofed speakers from Funktion-One with stainless fixings, grills and brackets and silicone coated drivers to withstand corrosion. Every speaker was treated and coated to make them weatherproof and resistant to the climate. The electronics are kept in a special air-conditioned room with a constant supply of cool, dry air.’
Another issue that confronted DMP Musik was the irregular layout of the beach club with its different zones. ‘The overall goal was to achieve the perfect distribution, individually per zone and altogether while meeting the unique audio needs of each zone and delivering great audio experience throughout the venue without any compromise,’ said director of DMP Musik, David Soewondo.
‘The irregular shape of the venue made it more challenging to achieve the proper sound distribution to all areas and there are also different areas with different audio requirements’ added Kenny Soewondo. ‘To solve this problem we came up with a very meticulous speaker placement plan with zone level controls and spent quite some time on site setting, balancing, and adjusting them all as individual zones and together as one big system.’
With the installation successfully completed and visitor numbers continuing to rise, Finn’s Beach House is now looking to equip additional solutions in areas not currently supplied with audio coverage and will once again be calling upon DMP Musik.
