eclipse commits to industry education
UAE: An initiative by The eclipse Group to support education in the industry will see a number of interns put through their paces over the summer season. Students were sourced from The University of South Wales, Rose Bruford College and Susu Earnshaw Theatre School in the UK and the SAE Institute in Dubai, and will each complete an internship lasting between 1½ and six months. The students will be paired up with a senior member of the eclipse team to gain experience while assisting on a number of large-scale events planned for the season.
The search for new interns began earlier in the year through a partnership with Dubai’s EMDI Institute of Media and Communication to provide its students with an introduction to the technical and business side of the live events industry. A variety of subjects from health and safety to technical costing were covered and the seminars included practical demonstrations using the equipment in the eclipse warehouses and theoretical presentations made at the EMDI premises in Knowledge Village. The seminars concluded with a final project completed by the students where they presented a large scale event plan from A to Z – plotting rigging points, appointing lighting, video, audio and power equipment and staying within the given budget.
‘With an average of 50 students in attendance each day for the different seminars, we can all confirm as a group that the UAE has some talented and passionate students that will take the live events industry by storm in the coming years,’ commented Martin Lubach, general manager at eclipse Staging Services. ‘And we wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours.’
The group also recently participated in the Eventice Middle East 2015 – an apprentice-style competition specifically for the events industry. Two of the winning contestants have now began full-time employment in the sales and business development teams for eclipse Staging Services and eclipse Venue Services.
