eclipse completes its largest audio job of the season

UAE: eclipse Staging Services has recently completed its largest audio job of the season at the ADGSEC gala dinner at Abu Dhabi’s ADNEC. The event called on the production company’s d&b audiotechnik equipment and provided an opportunity to use the manufacturer’s ArrayProcessing software.

‘The ADGSEC event required 270-degree coverage and up to 70m of throw from the centre,’ explained eclipse’s Tariq Suheil Al-Hassan. ‘This was a perfect opportunity to use the advantages of ArrayProcessing and meant that no delays were needed. This led to having three hangs of PA each side and two hangs of J Sub - a total of 62 boxes up in the air.’

The hangs consisted of 10 J Series cabinets, 10 enclosures from the V Series plus a further eight Y Series boxes per side. More specifically, eclipse supplied eight J8, two J12, six V8, four V12, four Y8 and four Y12 for each side. These were each fed from an amp channel from one of the 27 D80 amplifiers. In addition to the main system, the production company also supplied eight T Series cabinets for fold back and four M4 cabinets on each side of the delay screens as a precaution against masking.

‘We aligned the system with the initial calculation from ArrayCalc after we fed it accurate dimensions of where everything was in the room, including the exact heights and angles,’ recalled Mr Al-Hassan. ‘Then using SMAART and our measurement microphone in real time to see the exact situation we made the final adjustments.

‘Then it was a case of loading the different ArrayProcessing snapshots to each hang in R1 and instantly recalling each one to A/B a best case scenario,’ he continued. ‘The PA was dropped off in volume by 20dB 5m to 10m before any reflective surfaces depending on audience seating in the different zones.’

The system was mainly used for speech and playback during the event and Mr Al-Hassan feels there was a definite advantage to using ArrayProcessing for the gala dinner. ‘The difference was astounding between a bypassed and ArrayProcessed system. When walking between arrays their characters remain the same creating almost one source, and giving smooth and complete coverage across the whole venue,’ he concluded.
