eclipse shines a light on the stars of the AFC
UAE: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) held recently held the 2016 edition of its annual awards ceremony at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. This was the second time that the AFC Annual Awards has been staged in the emirate saw eclipse Staging Services provide the audio, video, lighting and rigging equipment.
On the audio side of things, eclipse delivered an L-Acoustics setup comprising two ground stacks of six dV-Dosc enclosures, with two dV-Subs left and right of the stage. Four FXT cabinets were employed as front-fills, while four 12XTs served as side and upstage-fills. This loudspeaker solution was powered by a combination of LA8 and LA4 amplifiers.
eclipse also implemented eight channels of UR4D and six channels of Sennheiser G3 in-ear monitors to satisfy the ceremony’s radio mic and IEM requirements. With a large number of television broadcasters and media outlets in attendance, the rental company made use of its RF Explorer RF analyser in conjunction with Clear Waves frequency coordination software prior to the event to predict available radio frequencies during the ceremony.
‘Being able to scan and assign available RF channels then import them automatically with the remote software made working with RF very efficient if any changes were required,’ recalled Tariq Al-Hassan, senior audio engineer at eclipse. ‘We also had a healthy amount of Clear-Com providing 12 packs of HelixNet and six packs of the new FreeSpeak II. All in all, this gave us a flexible solution and perfect communication.’
Junder Luzon, eclipse senior lighting technician, designed and programmed the lighting for event. He first utilised the rental company’s Wysiwyg software suite during the pre-planning phase, finalising the setup once onsite. The rig covered the gala dinner and pre-function areas as well as the ceremony venue and consisted of 500 lighting fixtures, all from eclipse’s lighting stock. This was complemented by custom-made gobos for one of the acts that performed during the event.
Displaying video was 12m x 5m of eclipse’s recently acquired Unilumin LED screen, equating to 8.9 million pixels. A pair of two Green Hippo Taiga media servers was deployed to control the content fed to the screen, which was split to form an entrance for those appearing onstage, while also mapping content to the surrounding screens via the Hippo ScreenWarp feature. The Taiga media servers were used alongside six Datapath X4s, a 24 x 24 DVI Matrix and a grandMA Light console. ‘Technical installation went very smooth as a lot of pre-production and prep was done before getting to site,’ noted eclipse head of video, Lee Worthington.’
‘We are delighted with how this event turned out, the team really deserve a pat on the back for this one. The successful delivery of this event was thanks to the dedication, hard work and technical knowledge of our staff,’ said Jhune Lenon, eclipse project manager. ‘With all events come some challenges, and this was no exception, but thanks to the planning and team work of the crew we delivered a superb event and we’re thrilled with the outcome.’
