eclipse stages Eid Al Fitr celebrations at the DWTC
UAE: The Dubai World Trade Centre recently held its Eid Al Fitr holiday celebrations to mark the end of Ramadan. The event featured a performance from Nawal Al Kuwaitia, making her return to the venue, while eclipse Staging Services provided the video, lighting and rigging equipment.
To support most of the video and lighting units, around 400m of truss and 70 chain hoists were installed on five large scaffold structures. ‘We had to rework the designer’s vision to work within Rashid Hall at DWTC, as the rig was very ambitious and far too heavy to hang out of the roof of the hall,’ explained eclipse’s project manager, Duncan Shortt.
The lighting rig comprised more than 350 lighting fixtures, including Sharpys, Super Sharpys and Mythos from Clay Paky, Martin Mac Viper and Mac Aura, and Lycian follow spots. A pair of MA Lighting grandMA2 full size mixers were employed for controlling the lighting system and facilitating the output of 24 DMX universes.
Meanwhile, 180 panels of 20mm LED produced a backdrop for the stage, and more than 90 sq-m of 3mm LED were used for the main content outputs. A grandMa Lite console controlled the video system, which was processed by two Green Hippo Taiga Media servers.
‘It was great to work on a production like this, and being able to use the Hippo in its natural habitat,’ said Lee Worthington, head of the eclipse video department. ‘We were able to pre-program almost all of the video mapping before arriving on site, which made for a smooth transition from set up to live show. The Hippo came into its own in this situation as it made mapping each LED tile extremely quick and easy. Having such powerful hardware, utilising six dual link outputs and the flexibility of the Hippo’s output manager, we were able to run all of the LED processors from one server.’
‘This was one of the biggest productions we have delivered in terms of fixture numbers and data networking,’ concluded Mr Shortt. ‘The result was incredibly satisfying.’
