eclipse takes to the skies for Flugtag
UAE: The recent Red Bull Flugtag at the Dubai Creek Park saw eclipse Staging Services take responsibility for the audio, lighting and rigging. The main challenge for the eclipse team was to ensure the 250m spectator area filled with 25,000 visitors was covered from an audio and visual point of view.
To achieve this, the rigging and audio departments plotted their towers so they wouldn't obstruct the view of the screens or launch area. The visual side of the project saw over 28m of Roe LED panels creating two screens to provide live camera feeds to the audience.
The audio system comprised two flown d&b audiotechnik Y-Series hangs with a ground stacked sub in addition to a pair of flown d&b V-Series hangs with a ground stacked sub. A Neutrik Xirium system was put to use for wireless feeds to each position with an analogue backup all controlled by a DiGiCo SD9 mixing console. Finally, Sennheiser in-ear monitors were supplied for the MC and the judges.
‘On this occasion we aimed for multiple flown systems to minimise delay conflicts with only a small amount of time alignment required to maintain coherence across the spectator areas,’ said eclipse head of audio, John Parkhouse. ‘The d&b system as always performed admirably for the large crowd. Apart from the large distance covered it was a pretty straight forward setup. Our new Neutrik Xirium wireless transmitters are proving very useful in these scenarios for distribution over distance. Personally it was nice to return to a show I also worked on sound for way back in 2005, the contestants demonstrated both hilarity and ingenuity which made it an entertaining weekend.’
