Event Lighting launches in Johannesburg

SOUTH AFRICA: A collaboration between Peter Rieck of Rieck’s Lighting and Eventech’s Henry Jenkins has resulted in the opening of a new lighting rental company in Johannesburg. Event Lighting was founded after Eventech, which did not previously stock any lighting equipment of its own, constantly had to hire fixtures.

‘We were on the point of buying our own lighting fixtures when Peter and I started chatting,’ recalled Mr Jenkins. ‘Now we are able to offer a complete solution.’

Following these discussions, Lighting Events was started with an initial inventory being purchased through DWR Distribution. The sale comprised 12 Robe Pointes and 24 Spikies, as well as 48 Longman F4 Up LED par cans and 180m of trussing.

The rental company is targeting corporate events and shows and will be run by industry veteran Wynand Veldsman, who has spent the last year working for Eventech and was previously employed by Gearhouse South Africa and C&S.

‘Event Lighting is a new and separate company,’ summarised Mr Rieck. ‘Rieck’s Lighting will operate as normal. I am still a consultant, a project manager and have my own clients to look after, while Henry remains the owner of Eventech, a rental company which supplies sound, staging, backline, structures and power.’
