Fohhn finds an Australian home
AUSTRALIA: In addition to showcasing the new Media Series at this year’s Pro Light & Sound exhibition in Frankfurt, Fohhn Audio AG also announced the appointment of an Australian distributor. Having never been represented down under during its 22-year history, the German beam steering expert has teamed up with CMI Music & Audio following three years of discussion.
‘At Fohhn Audio, we carefully select our distribution partners as it has to be right for both parties,’ explained sales and marketing director Uli Haug. ‘Additionally, CMI Music & Audio were also undergoing some restructuring and so we decided to go ahead only when the time was right. However, it is worth the wait as CMI are not only thoroughly professional but have an honest, open minded team who share our passion for audio.’
Having previously represented Duran Audio and the Intellivox brand in Australia, CMI Music & Audio was left with a void in its product portfolio as a result of the Harman acquisition in 2013. ‘It’s important to clarify that we weren’t looking for a direct replacement of Intellivox,’ announced CMI Music & Audio managing director Peter Trojkovic. ‘There is an increasing demand from consultants and SIs for a beam steering audio solution with a wider frequency range. Basically, systems with more power that will cater for live music performances in addition to vocal intelligibility. Having thoroughly researched the market in 2014, we knew Fohhn Audio with their Linea Focus series offered those criteria and more. However, we decided to resist jumping in so that we could restructure our technical department by adding qualified personnel to better accommodate the brand.’
As a major MI supplier in Australia and New Zealand, CMI Music & Audio expanded its portfolio into pro audio with the introduction of HK Audio in 2005 and has since added Adamson, Mackie, mc2, One Systems, TASCAM and XTA. With the addition of AKG in 2016, the company purposely spearheaded into commercial A/V. ‘This is where there is growth in the market,’ explained Mr Trojkovic. ‘In most other sectors, flat lining is the new growth. Being able to present a premium European brand such as Fohhn to our customers will enable us to provide a complete audio solution.’
