For-A package enables Valley Baptist Church’s HD upgrade
USA: A For-A video production package was installed at Valley Baptist Church as the main crux of its transition to HD. The Bakersfield, California-based church had initially built an SDI digital facility in 2005, before HD was an affordable option for its control room. More than a decade later, Technical Innovation’s Blue Hat Design was engaged as a systems integrator to upgrade the video production facility.
A tight schedule was allocated, with Valley Baptist’s aim being to gut the old facility and have the new control room functioning in less than a week. The Church’s director of media and broadcasting, Dave Kalahar, credits Blue Hat Design and For-A for a job well done, in only six days. ‘For-A went above and beyond to make it happen for us. Their engineers built an identical system in Japan so that they could immediately troubleshoot any issues remotely.’
Valley Baptist required equipment that was easy to operate as it often relies upon volunteers for its video production, yet didn’t wish to compromise on quality as it live streams video content regularly. Content produced can range from Sunday services to question and answer sessions with pastors, and from special events to Bible school lectures, all of which is shared on the HOW’s social media accounts with on-demand content also made available online. Blue Hat Design installed a variety of For-A equipment based on the church’s needs, including an HVS-2000 switcher, an MV-4200 multi-viewer, an FA-505 multi-channel signal processor, an MFR-5000 routing switcher and an LTS-60 media archiving server.
The HVS-2000 video switcher would prove the best solution, with the church having already been won over. ‘Before we began this project, we knew For-A as a respected company with smart technologies,’ says Mr Kalahar. ‘We were sold on the HVS-2000 switcher after seeing it previously at an NAB Show, and found that no other switcher compared to it. The HVS-2000 switcher was designed with such smart engineering and we found the product integrations made perfect sense for us.’
Valley Baptist Church had also recently undertaken another major project, investing US$5 million in the purchase and remodelling of a 35-acre sanctuary nearby, which serves as a satellite location featuring live music. The HVS-2000 is used to stream sermons to the new church from the main campus.
‘We felt confident relying on For-A technology for such a large part of our HD control room upgrade, and they have not let us down,’ Mr Kalahar concludes. ‘We’re extremely pleased with the performance of our For-A equipment package. The integration between all of our For-A equipment is seamless, and it helps us effectively convey our message to our congregation on a daily basis.’
