Highlighting change in motion

SOUTH AFRICA: South African rental company Blackmotion has become the first in the country to add Robe’s Robin 300 Plus LED Wash fixtures to its inventory. The purchase was facilitated by DWR Distribution and saw Blackmotion acquire 16 of the Robin 300 Plus LED units alongside eight Robin Spikies and 12 Clay Paky Mythos.

The rental company has been operating for more than 11 years and specialises in three industry segments: television lighting, events and dry hire. The Robin 300 Plus LED Wash and Mythos fixtures have already been put to use on a number of projects, including on the sixth series of SABC1’s music variety show, Fan Base. ‘The Robin 300 Plus LED Fixtures and Mythos add a touch of class and punch to Fan Base,’ noted Blackmotion founder Kagiso Moima-Wa-Masemene.

Meanwhile, the Spikies have also gained some television exposure, as Blackmotion deployed them for use on SABC fashion reality show, Raw Silk. ‘The Spikies have added a different dimension to our television lighting styles because of the fixtures capabilities and colour patterns and we’re quite excited about that,’ enthused Mr Moima-Wa-Masemene.

Blackmotion has seen plenty of success throughout its decade-plus history and continues to go from strength to strength. ‘The business is doing very well,’ Mr Moima-Wa-Masemene confirmed. ‘We’ve managed to do better than last year already and we’ve grown 80 per cent in revenue.’

However, while the company has gained a solid reputation within the rental industry across South Africa and beyond, the humanitarian efforts put forth by Mr Moima-Wa-Masemene and his company are also notable. These ventures include the Kagiso Education Foundation, which hosts seminars such as Zithande Women Empowerment; the Kagiso Water Park initiative that Mr Moima-Wa-Masemene has set up in his hometown; and a campaign that he is currently running to help provide sanitary towels to young girls that don’t have access to them.

‘Remaining kind to your fellow man is important to me. That is the core belief system that has made us who we are as Blackmotion,’ explained the company founder. ‘We’ve managed to do amazing things in South Africa and in the SADC regions and are now recognised outside of South Africa as a professional company to deal with.

‘For me, it’s a blessing to be in an industry that supports me,’ Mr Moima-Wa-Masemene concluded. ‘Duncan Riley from DWR Distribution has been instrumental in my journey, as has Mike Jones from MJ Event Gear.’
