JBL is in Control
Extending its Constant Beamwidth Technology (CBT) series, JBL Professional’s CBT1000 is a new adjustable-coverage column array loudspeaker providing adjustable vertical pattern selection to help aligning coverage to a room’s geometry. Designed to offer a single speaker solution for venues, the CBT1000 together with the CBT1000E extension cabinet aim to provide a level of user friendliness, thereby simplifying the delivering great sound. Independent selection of four pattern-up coverage angles and four pattern-down coverage angles combine to provide 16 different vertical coverage combinations. In its asymmetrical settings, the CBT1000 extends audio toward the far listeners to balance level differences between near are far listeners, whilst also providing down-fill. In the horizontal plane, the system’s patent-pending horizontal gradient waveguide reportedly provides tapered coverage to reach the front and rear corners of the room while minimising over-splash. Capable of producing LFs down to 40 Hz with a continuous output of 130dB, the CBT1000 combines 12 6.5-inch low frequency drivers and 24 tweeters within the enclosure.
Alongside the CBT series expansion, JBL has added to its recently updated Control Contractor Series 23-1, 25-1 and 28-1 surface-mount loudspeakers with the addition of three dedicated low-impedance versions (1L models). The latest models combine 70V/100V (T) and low-impedance (8 ohm) into all-in-one versions (-1) for added flexibility. In addition, the ‘1L’ 8-ohm-only, non-transformer 23-1L, 25-1L and 28-1L models have been created for low-impedance projects. Other features of new-look line include the incorporation of InvisiBall wall brackets, a flatter and wider frequency response, deeper bass extension, improved coverage for on- and off-axis sound and higher SPL capability. A redesigned grille with improved weather resistance, screw-down input terminals and an optional aluminium WeatherMax step-up grille with toughened finish has been designed for outdoor applications.
The Control 10 Series of blind-mount ceiling speakers and Control 80 series of series of landscape loudspeakers have similarly been expanded. New to the Control 10 series, the Control 18C/T combines an 8-inch LF driver with a 1-inch HF driver, providing a higher output level, extended bass response and consistent coverage pattern. A built-in 60W multi-tap transformer promotes its use for either 70V or 100V distributed lines, whilst the tap selector can be set for direct 8-ohm operation. The blind-mount design via the pre-attached back is designed for quick installation. Accessories include a construction bracket and mud-ring bracket for new-construction hard ceilings, whilst a C-ring, tile rails for suspended ceilings, grille and paint shield are also included.
For the Control 80 Series, two new weather-resistant models engineered to provide 360-degree coverage have joined. Designed to be mounted on or in the ground, the full-range models are unobtrusive and compact in design, allowing them to blend in with their surroundings. The IP56-certified polyethylene enclosures have had their colour extended throughout the material, so the speaker maintains its finish when scraped or scratched. A built-in transformer enables use on 70V or 100V distributed systems, or can be set to 8-ohms for low-impedance operation with an easy-to-access tap selector. The smaller Control 85M combines a 5.25-inch LF driver with a ¾-inch tweeter to provide 80W of continuous power handling in a direct 8-ohms setting within a frequency range of 55Hz to 18kHz. The larger Control 88M comprises an 8-inch driver and 1-inch tweeter, providing 120W power handling within a frequency range of 47Hz to 16 kHz. It also features a built-in 60W 70V/100V multi-tap transformer. Both models feature SonicGuard overload protection for preventing damage from occasional overdriving.
On the more portable side, JBL has introduced the world to the PRX800W, a high-powered PA system with wireless control via the PRX Connect iOS and Android app. The Harman-brand has designed the system with what it describes as a ‘sophisticated DSP’ to enable a quick and easy setup. Keeping with the theme of control, the PRX800W has been developed to offer bands and DJs a controllable and portable solution.
The app includes control for an 8-band parametric EQ, speaker delay, mute and gain settings, and shows can reportedly be configured offline with the presets saved to further speed-up setup. PRX800W series cabinets feature integrated 1500W Class-D power amplification and the manufacturer’s Differential Drive woofer technology, housed within wooden enclosures with tongue-in-groove joints, a DuraFlex protective finish and 16-gauge steel grilles providing durability.
The PD500 Series, meanwhile, is a range of loudspeakers comprising four horn-loaded 15-inch 2-way EN54-24 certified systems and a dual 15-inch sub. As well as being available in a black or white finish, the series can now also be purchased with JBL’s weather protection and WRX extreme weather protection finishes.
